I know this is something that's come up before, but it's not an easy thing to search on.

I just took a look at JZM website and noticed that for 964 they offer 12K and 24K service. From the prices, I would say I have always had a 12K service with my current mechanics since I know my "basic" price is about £500.

So - what's the difference, and can I reduce my service costs by going the 12K route for alternate services?

The difference is that one is more expensinve than the other! (I'm sure their is more to it though....!)

I don't think their is a need for the 24K service. Porsche did not include this in the service schedule either. Just a 12K each year.

The service book should show what extras are required every 24000 miles.

On a 993, If I recall correctly :

you will have the 12K service
24K service is 12K + a few bits for the 24K
48K service is 12K + a few bits for the 24K + fuel filter change

Just see what they recommend, depending on your yearly mileage

I thought to change a 12 into a 24 you included a fuel filter. The 'add-ons' to either service were a brake fluid change every two years and a transmission oil change every 48k miles.

I hope it's more than that. For one thing, at JZM the difference in price seems to be £260 for 12K and £595 for 24K - that's one expensive fuel filter!

A brake service is not usually included as part of a standard service. The brakes are checked as part of the service, and you'll pay extra if they need replacing.

I try to get a yearly service and on the last one JZ suggested a 6K service would be sufficient since my yearly mileage was @3K.

Fuel filter change on early 993 is definitely at/after around 48K

Best thing to do is give them a call/email and ask them the differences between their 12K/24K services

I must confess, that did cross my mind - but since the car is currently being serviced elsewhere I don't really need to know until next year. Was just idle curiosity (and I suspected I was the only one who didn't know the answer, but I guess not!).

The main difference between the 12K and 24K at JZM is that the 24K includes adjusting valve clearances and changing the spark plugs and some other stuff like fuel filter etc. - Jonas has always advised me that on 5-6K a year like I do, He would suggest a schedule of say 24K - 6K - 12K and then back to 24K. With your higher mileage I would assume 12K and 24K alternating. Of course, you could just ask them....

My guess is valve clearances and/or spark plugs.

PCT quoted me the following:
£475 (or £410 without spark plugs). £225 reduction without valve clearance adjustments.
