Yes that could work but first things need to be modified to allow the units to move. Right now they can't be adjusted down....well, that is to say, for the past seven years we have been talking about it, they have not been able to be adjusted down.

Thanks,
the bumper definitely has to come off for the installation of those fog lights. You need to cut the back out for the air vents!

They should be adjustable with it on, but I can’t remember if we did something weird installing them that makes that difficult.

If you have the TechArt lighting fog version now sold by FVD posted by HEDR they should come with a special back for the VW golf mark 3 fog lights. Without this it is impossible to adjust or mount without removing the bumper. You can adjust them if you have a lift to keep the car flat and remove the lower covers. It is a royal PITA but can be achieved with only minor scrapes and bruises. I. have them on both my turbo and C2 and were used on the RoW 94 turbo S.

Light is vintage and will help in foggy conditions by laying down some low light. I am not aware of an LED H3 but if they make them it would help.

BTW Audette juts ent these. claiming 150% more light than standard 60/55 H4's.

I saw those. I am not sure I have enough goodwill with HEDR's neighbors to test them against the 100w bulbs though!

Some feedback on a "plug and play" option for H4 headlights. I purchased these on Amazon as a direct fit for reflector halogen lights having previously used Philips halogen bulbs in my car. These fitted perfectly and when cast on my garage wall appeared to have a clean cutoff similar to halogen bulbs.
By coincidence my car was due for an annual "warrant of fitness" and the testing station used their headlight testing unit to determine scatter and focus of the bulbs. It passed without any comment from the testing officer. However, when I drove home in the dark later that evening there was a noticeable amount of peripheral light that to my mind would have given other drivers on the road cause for complaint.
The bulbs were very bright and pure white compared to my halogens and its possible I need to just get used to how much more light is produced. I'll get a friend to drive towards me on a dark road and also to drive with me behind him and get his opinion how much stray light is produced and if it's in any way blinding him.

Philips Ultinon Access LED car headlight bulb (H4), ultra-compact direct-fit, 80%, 6.000K, set of 2: Automotive: Amazon.com.au

After looking at the wiring diagram. It turns out the high and low beam wires were swapped on the driver side plug. Everything appears to be normal now. If only my car could talk it would tell me all the bad things the previous owners did haha.

Circling back on topic. Below is my contribution. I've recently installed a set of Audette Gold Series LEDs with Bosch 4475 Fluted lenses. Outside of adjusting (which was a PITA) they light output is good and bright for my bad eyes. I probably still need to fiddle with it more but so far it seems "good enough"

The last few pics are of the darkest and literally no light road I could find in the business/Amazon warehouse park near my home.

Interesting. I assume the "eyelashes" are from the fluted lenses.

Yep, I originally thought it was due the non-working city bulb casting a reflection. When I took the bulbs it still had the same effect so I just left them in. I'll just have to see if i get high beamed when i do drive at night.

It's great. I will say when I was driving back home the person in a 4runner in front of me moved over to the left to get behind me. I'm guessing as I got closer the light got brighter

Been seeing ads for these H4 leds directly from Porsche.

That's the Porsche-branded Philips (Lumiled) product. Price difference is significant.

have you tried in the H4 bulbs yet? Curious to see how much better these are compared to my stock bulbs.

I installed them shortly before the winter break and only made one short trip in the darkness. Light was definitely way better than with the original H4’s. Much brighter, an absolute improvement.
My 964 is only registered for the months March to November, so currently I can‘t use the car. Looking forward to taking it out again in a few weeks.

I just found this thread. Great input! Many thanks to all that contributed, especially to Dave (SpartanSix) who started it all and worked hard on the project.

Cheers,
John
