The best thing about them is that quality coils are readily available.

OMG!!! That was IT!!!!

I disconnected the one ignition module and the car now stays running!

I've been trying to figure this out for a month!

Thanks so much guys.....do I need to replace the coils too or just the ignition module?

At this point maybe I should just swap out both modules and coils to be safe.

What do you think?

Thanks again,
Don

So you’re saying you isolated the bad coil by just unplugging each module and running it? Does it matter which distributor you connect the module to ?

You need to continue troubleshooting, since you identified which ignition system (upper/lower) is the problem.
It could any one of many elements in the problem system, e.g. spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, or ignition module.
Don't waste money buying unnecessary parts, e.g. ignition coils.

I never tried switching the plugs to different modules from how it was originally set up.

As Loren and RW964 stated, with the car running:

1. I unplugged the first ignition module and the car continued to die out after 10-15 seconds (original problem).
2. I plugged that ignition module back in.
3. Started the car and disconnected the 2nd ignition module and the car kept running.

Now I know that it's an electrical problem and it's with the one module and/or coil that I disconnected.

I think I'm just going to replace both to be safe.

Thanks again everybody!
Don

Thanks Loren....

I'll double check those components....it's just that they have all been replaced with the engine rebuild.

But you never know...something could be faulty!
