Do you have a 89-91 car w/o head gasket?
Dear rennlisters
Do you, like me I believe, have a 89-(early)91 car where the head gasket has not been retrofitted?
Any signs of leaks in the head to cylinder area?
What is your milage?
I have 30.500 miles and no visible leaks. There are a oilspot or moisture, but very small and according to my mechanic it's "nothing".
I do not think that I have the gaskets retrofitted, as there are no records of it. On the other hand I have the vent. kit, which must have been put in afterwards, also without any records of that being mounted. Is it possible to see if a gasket has been retrofitted, without opening things up?
cheers

Just did a thorough inspection of that area 2 weeks ago, preparing for a DE event and found NO signs of leakage. Car has +79,000 miles on it.

1989 'K' series C4 with 120k miles. No gasket and engine is never completely dry, but never seems to actually drip - there's just an oily mist! Reckon I use a quarter of a litre of oil every thousand miles or so.

I have a ’92 with the factory gaskets, but at about 60K it started leaking anyway. The car was under warranty and Porsche paid for a complete engine reseal. The new gaskets they installed were newer versions of the originals and were of different color.

I've not had the problem. I have a '90 C4 with 184K miles on original engine. No overhauls. No leaks at the head/cylinder area. I have had to replace a few oil lines over the years. Currently I have a small drip from the bell housing. The mechanic tells me its the engine main seal. I will repair it whenever I need to do my clutch. In the mean time, I'm tolerating the drip.

90 C4 with 40k miles and no leaks, with no work done to prevent or stop any, in that area. Plenty of oil leaks over the years though, but thats a different story.
