Frustration with hood crest....
I suffered severe scope creep with a car wash this weekend where I decided to remove the bumpers, side skirts, shark fins etc to refresh the seals/trim and give the car a good shine up. I went to remove the hood crest only to find one of the nuts not making any progress backing off - it felt stripped. I read people having success lightly applying upward pressure on the crest to get the threads to engage, so I proceeded to tape off the hood and give it a try.
Very annoying result! Almost no pressure and it popped off, revealing that it had obviously previously been repaired.
Judging by the markings and what I've read, I believe this to be an original crest so I'd like to repair it and retain it (plus the price of a replacement seems very high). I can clean it up and epoxy the stuff back on, but the threads are almost non existsant - is this normal? Is the little nut supposed to "cut into" the stud? Doesn't seem like a very good mounting solution....
I did discover some writing underneath the crest - has anyone seen something like this? Seems strange.
Anyways, any help or advice would be appreciated.

They are press nuts, no threads. Re solder the pin. Get a few factory nuts, they are cheap.

What he said. Solder or epoxy that back on and get new nuts. They're just speed nuts.

+3 on the above. I've found writing all over the backsides of parts of my 964. Testament to the hand-built nature of these cars back in the day before full factory automation . . .

FWIW - I tried soldering my broken pin back on but I couldn’t get enough heat into the crest w a soldering iron. JB Weld worked just fine for me.

no one finds the writing on the hood or the small orange sticker, under the hood emblem, odd? those strike me as inventory markings of some kind, but then why leave only that area untouched when prepping (repaint, paint correction) the hood?
it's hard to understand the reasoning behind some of those choices.

Funny, I saw and wondered same, and if it was a repaint, etc :-)

I do not believe it to be a repaint based on paint meter readings, the rock chips/paint condition consistent with the remainder of the car, and all original stickers present with no signs of tape lines/overspray. It is quite peculiar however that the hood crest has obviously been off before but if it were for detailing they didn't remove the writing underneath? Strange....

My 1995 993 had a green sticker under the hood crest and it has original paint. I assume it's from the factory. Mine did not have any writings like yours though.
