New Clutch Time?
Rennlist Member
We ran strong all day long Saturday and Sunday. (Our last two events at Sebring saw Miss Behavin leaving the track on a trailer with mechanical failures)
During my second and third stings on Sunday I picked a new bad habit. The shifter started to feel really notchy and I started missing down-shifts in the hairpin. I'd heel & toe from 4th down to 3rd and then 4th again instead of second. I did it twice in my second stint and twice more in my third.
The good news is I was able to consistently turn in sub three minute laps - with a personal best of 2:51.
Now that I'm home and the car is back in "street trim" - driving around town on 5 miles of errands I noticed the shifter is REALLY balky. The clutch pedal is starting to feel more like an on/off switch with little "play" in it. I'm taking Miss Behavin down the shop again for a tranny flush. Then we'll see what's going on in the gear box. I'm afraid the clutch is toast.

What kind of brake fluid are you using?
Tracking your 964 will often lead to boiling of the brake fluid. Once this happens the brake fluid is toast.
Before spending money on clutch replacements I would recommend a brake fluid replacement with high temp fluid followed by a bleed of all the systems. You will need to use a Bosch Hammer for this and ensure you replace the brake fluid in every system.
Do you disconnect ABS and PDAS whilst you are on the track?

I use SuperBlue and have the brakes bled before every event. I don't believe the shop uses the hammer when bleeding the brakes to open the valves in the ABS control system - but we sure do use a lot of fluid!
Last summer I upgraded to the "big reds" up front. I also put in a set of fresh Pagid Orange pads. The brakes were rock solid all weekend long! In fact every session I passed faster, newer by braking later and deeper. (I passed 996's, and a pair of 993 C4S!) I never experienced any brake fade - it was very confidence inspring.
I do not disconnect the ABS system. While I might be inclined to go "au-nautrale" - I'd like my wife to have that extra safeguard available to her during her stints at the wheel.
I'm trying to get the car into the shop (mechanics been ill) I'll have him completely flush the system and see if that makes life a little better.
