Went home because there was a problem with the new pool liner. Out of all the cars in my driveway, including the 996TT and a 993TT, the pool workers were in awe of my red 964 cabriolet. That was the only car they commented on. Kind of suprising.

Yeah it does. Kind of bitter sweet though when you have so much $$$ sunk in these turbos . . . My 964 though is my favorite looks wise. That says a lot about the the timeless beauty of the lines of a 964.

I think too that the 964 (in Doug's collection of 3 911's) is still SO very recognizeable (as THE Porsche) since it has basically the same body shell as 911's have had since 1965. Everyone knows it's a Porsche. Plus that red color and big wing help too!
Maybe they (the pool workers) might suspect that the 964 is a bit older and many people seem to react a bit better to older cars (when comparing them with the new car right next to it). It doesn't take too much effort to go to the Porsche dealer and lease a new 996 (obviously you have to have the means/money to do that). Keeping an older car mint (which I assume all of Doug's cars are mint!) is hard to do and even most non car type people have enough sense to know that keeping an older car perfect takes a lot of effort.

The 964 has it all over the other models. The 993 is cool and I'd love to own one, but it looks a little pudgy in comparison; like it's retaining water. And the 996 looks a little generic and needs proper headlights.
Just washed my shiny black 964 this AM, so I'm fresh from running my hands all over those beautiful shapes.

It is skinny. I have a photograph somewhere of were I had linned the cars up in the cove when cleaing out the garage. One of them was head on and I was pretty suprised how narrow the 964 was compared to the later models.
