Default What's the best way to secure my 964

As it pretty much says in the title, I'm off on business in the not too distant future, and am wondering how best to secure the car.
I did think about removing R41 amongst other things making it undriveable, but wondered whether anyone else has a better suggestion.
She (the car that is) will be locked and alarmed, but i'm looking for better alternatives should some low life get a hold of the keys.....your suggestions therefore are most welcome.

Yes, this is posted on the PCGB forum,
Yes this has also been posted to Smartgroups.
I would like the widest possible range of views. that's all folks.....and that's for your time.

Kevin.

Kevin, where are you leaving the car? Parked outside your house or at the airport, etc?

I would remove the DME and also put a huge wheel lock (ala club) on so as to visually deter thiefs and avoid possible damage if they attemped to break in!

Also, a weather proofed car cover securely chained and locked would help disguise it was a Porsche. I used to do this on my BMW convertible so people wouldnt know it was a soft top and try to cut it.

Hi Howard,

It will be at home, garaged. But as it took some years to save for I get a bit paranoid. Just want to see it there when I get home.....

I understand your concerns! I installed a quick release hub for my steering wheel, mostly as a security measure...

However, removing the stock steering wheel isn't difficult, and would certainly deter any thief who wanted to DRIVE your car away.

Dear Kevin,
There are some things you cannot cover. I would remove relay R41. This ensures it cannot be driven away unless the thief knows all and carries jumper leads for all the contacts.
Damage you can do nothing about. Some thieves get angry and damage the car anyway. The best thing to do is just go on holiday and have a good time.
I would take extra security precautions on the garage entry points rather than the 964. If they cannot get in they cannot do anything.
Ciao,
Adrian

Although this isn't much help to you, I'd thought I'd mention it for anyone thinking of buying an alarm :

Mine has a digit keypad in the car as well as the normal keyfob. If you press a couple of the digits when you switch the car off, then it will disable the keyfobs - so the alarm / immobiliser cannot be deactivated unless you know the 4 digit pin. Even stealing the keys won't help.

I always enable this when I go away.

Oh - and it's a Sigma Cat 1 alarm in case anyone wants one. No affiliation etc. etc.

As Adrian says, secure the garage door. You can buy bolts which go through the floor in the inside.

R41 sounds like a good idea too.

Anything else you can park in front of the garage door?

take a couple of the wheels off and leave them with a neighbour .
leave the jack with another nieghbour .
leave the keys with another neighbour .
leave the relay with another neighbour .
leave the alarm fob with another neighbour .
leave the steering wheel with another neighbour .

basically remove as many parts from your car as you can , and store them at different peoples houses .
when you get home , everybody comes to your house for the "porsche party" , you put the car back together and all get drunk on the duty free liquor you brought back as a thank you present

in the future all your freinds will be organising there diaries on the dates you go on holiday !!

you could take apart the whole car and boxed it in the attic.
when you get back put it back together.

actually best way secure the garage and have your friendly neighbor look out for you, and check your garage every so often.

Ask a Porsche dealer to stall it in the showroom between all other cars, an d pick it up after your trip.

Get a huge insurance policy. Then stop worrying and enjoy the vacation.
