Default Starter Problem

I have a 91 C4 and recently when starting the car the starter barely turns over for the first few revolutions, very much like a weak battery. BUT it gains speed and eventually the motor starts.

Any thoughts, battery or starter or ?

Thanks

check the pos and earth connections .

pity the 911 starter is not easier to get at !!!
put a jump lead from the starter earth to chassis , if it cures it....... its an earth-strap problem .
if it doesn't , run a jumperlead from positive to battery , if that cures it , check the pos. connection .
if it doesn't , change to a known good , fully charged battery .
if that doesnt do it , ask the other guys !!!
