Ian, Be nice to know how the project goes as the subject of a second oil cooler is a "hot" topic in this area! Do you have a A/C? I was wondering how it would affect the A/C performance if the second cooler was installed over the condensor.

RUF install the additional cooler behind the condenser mixer and use the condenser fan for additional cooling. A fan is actually not required on the additional cooler.
The additional cooler is normally only used in Porsches without aircon and is mounted where the condenser mixer is normally installed.
Pictures of this I think are in my book somewhere of both the RUF and Porsche installations. If I am mistaken I do have some images if somebody is doing this job.
Ciao,
Adrian

Here are some pictures from my installation of a factory RSR cooler kit. The unique and hard to get part is the mounting plate which goes below the oil cooler. I have eliminated the fan and have not had any cooling problems as yet in traffic without it. The installation still adds around 13 pounds. The oil cooler is the same as the right side cooler.

I installed a second oil cooler on my C2 in place of the AC condensor. It works very well. At Daytona, as soon as the temperature hit a hair above the middle mark, the temp guage would drop to 1/4 mark.

The part number is 964.207.022.81 for the RSR 3.8 kit and this is the part number I used to order the kit. The price was Euro 2280.

The kit I received was I believe superceded to 993.207.022.81 which is really the kit for the 993, the only pieces which are not correct are the two foam inserts (the two black pieces with bar code labels to left of cooler in kit photo above) that seal the gap between the cooler and the bumper cover.

Cargraphic cooler kit is 1500 Euro, which fits with existing a/c. See Rennlist sponsor www.carnewal.com

I'll be installing the Cargraphic cooler in the empty space left by may AC in a few weeks. I'll take some pictures. Mine was much cheaper than the RSR cooler (about $1600, part of a group buy on the 993 board). It came with a new fan, etc because they knew I had removed my AC.

A few questions:

1)Could the bracket that holds the A/C condenser be modified to mount another stock cooler. In a way that is all that Porsche did although the mount looks bespoke for the task and was probably limited production therefore way overpriced. I bought it awhile ago when the dollar was worth something.

2) How big is the Cargraphic cooler, it is hard to tell from the Carnewal picture if it is bigger, smaller or the same size as the right side cooler.

I literally just finished installing a secondary oil cooler to my 90 C2 last night. I used a second stock oil cooler, and the factory 3.8 RS oil lines, mounted to where the AC condenser was. I did not buy the kit that Cupcar so kindly pictured. I spent many hours fabricating the brackets and block off plates that the kit comes with. The botom mounting plate (a mirror image of the one from the passenger side) and top block off plates (with holes for the lines) would have made the job much easier. I'm wondering if the parts in the picture available separately? I used sheet aluminum and a pop rivet gun were used to make the block offs. I ground down the bottom plate of the AC condenser bracket to match the shape of the bottom of the cooler (it's "v" shaped). I reused/modified factory parts as much as possible. I simply plugged the oil temperature sender on extra cooler. Following the factory lead I installed rubber grommets to isolate the oil cooler from vibration. I'm guessing that they did that to eliminate foaming of the oil?

I eliminated the electric fans from both sides (and the alarm horn) to try and make up some of the added weight.

One question on the direction of the oil flow; In the stock setup does the oil flow from the engine into the top or middle inlet on the cooler and then back to the engine? Should the new flow of oil from the engine to the cooler go to the additional cooler first and then back through the stock cooler and return to the engine? or does it matter?

It was midnight when I finished and took the car out for a test drive. I was able to get the thermostat to open up and confirm that the coolers were getting oil and not leaking, but could not run it hard enough to tell where the temp will run under normal driving conditions. It was also in the low 50's last night.

I don't think that a car driven on the street most of the time needs a second cooler. My car only see 10% street use with the balance of the time is spent at 7,000 rpm on the track. During the summer I was running at the top white line on the temp gauge (250 degrees?), which is too hot. I also did a lot of internal modifications to the engine when I rebuilt it last winter.

I'll post an update once I get to really drive the car.

The main parts of the kit are, with a little guessing since it is in German?English with no picture refererence as for right side):

964.107.901.00 Console to support cooler (I think the only console identified and the part is called a "console" on the right).
993.207.421.70 Oil line
993.207.423.70 Oil line
964.107.902.00 Plastic cover left
964.575.522.02 Aluminum cover right (just the original with an oval hole in it)
964.624.141.00 Plastic plate
964.207.223.80 Aluminum cover left
964.124.002.30 Screw plug
964.107.904.00 Bracket with rubber mounting
964.207.224.81 Aluminum cover left

The coolers are plumbed in series i.e from engine into right cooler out of right to left and from left return to engine.
