Website Assistance - MINE
Okay, I'm a bit crafty with a keyboard, but know NOTHING of DNS Servers, proxy servers...ah, whatever, I can't even FAKE that I know the terminolgy!
I own the domain www.trackrocket.com and FINALLY have gotten around to figuring out how to link to some webspace I have here on Rennlist.
I spent about an hour on my domain registry's website assigning an url redirect to the Rennlist space.
I figured out how to take a picture of one of my cars and put some text on it to "personalize" my front page, instead of a form letter saying that "I'll be around soon".
Trouble is, about every other time I go to the website (to test my craftiness) it comes up with my domain registry's website and NOT my "crafty" pic!!
I have gone in there and made sure the redirect is setup correctly, and apparently, because I can get to my page by typing in www.trackrocket.com most of the time...I have been successful??
Anybody willing to help me out?? I will probably email the domain registry and John D. to figure out if it's just a traffic issue (clogged/busy ports) but wanna get some ideas going here - what's to lose??
...I just might learn something out of the deal.
THEN I have to figure out HOW to build a REAL web page!!

Jeff - if it working some of the time, it sounds like you've done it OK - you'll be waiting 24-48 hours for the name servers around the world to refresh that's all.
It's all to do with how the name servers know where to find your website, and the information they hold needs to be updated regularly...

...and me. Nice picture. If you're new to all this it's worth taking a look at blogging (eg http://www.blogger.com) as it's a really easy way to set up an online journal with a nice look and feel (there are thousands of free "skins" out there to give your blog a professional look). Beyond that, get your hands on a decent design tool (eg Frontpage is bundled with certain versions of Office - you may already have it) and an HTML tutorial. We'll be expecting great things!

Jeff,
The issue of seeing your Domain Services' page is most likely thier problem. The link did work for me with IE, but it did not work for my Mozilla browser (I just saw garbage). Anyway, you might want to check to see if there is a set up time period where your service gets their DNS in order (typically 24 to 48 hours).
Good Luck.

Thanks guys, it seems that the 24-48hr waiting period is NO theory as the page has come up every time I've tried today.
I may try the "blogging" website for some good info.
I GOTTA figure out how and where to put all this GREAT stuff I have on my hard drive!
Thanks for all the compliments on the car...it's fresh out of the paint booth...I figured it would provide a nice "flashy" preview of things to come on the site.

Sweet...
Jeff, The flames will provide you with approximately .8 seconds per lap more speed. Whoa, that came out GREAT!!! Tell me the trailer on your site is your new trailer for 2004. I am impressed.

worked for me - it can take a couple of days for DNS replication to get around to all the tree's -
if you get that again try ctrl-F5 (forced reload) generally reloads the corrent page.
also clearing your IE cache would help
me i just need to finish the Cup site

John H. - ...no way, I'm not THAT "Technical".
Scott, darnit...I was TOLD that the flames would take 1.8 seconds off my times!
No, that wonderful transporter is not mine...just thought it might make a decent backdrop for a few pics, never thought that I could use it to be a "poser" and get chicks that way though!
I'm still waiting for that money tree to grow in my backyard, Miracle Grow and various fertilizers don't seem to help.
