Fixing the frunk release cover
We were discussing this on another thread that I can't locate. The expanding plastic "drywall anchors" on my original frunk release lever cover have fatigued and failed, so the screws are now useless, as is the cover which is wont to fall onto the floor. I was ordering some other plastic parts so I threw a 964-538-625-00-01C in there, even though there was tell that the part had changed. The part which came has an identical number stamped on it but differs in details around the fasteners as you can see in my pics. Original on the left, replacement on the right.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make it work?
The post you remembered was here I think.
Basically the new "version" of the handle cover is only useful for 993s (or maybe late 964s?) and it is probably less useful than the your broken cover on your 964.
As I described in the referenced post, I want through exactly the same machinations as you with the new part. I eventually returned it to the dealer and then designed a mod to the original (broken) part that allowed it to work on my 964. The basic description of my cheap but time-consuming mod is in the post but if anyone needs details, let me know.
Cheers!

Jim, in your opinion would it be possible to swap 993-538-101-00-01C for the part on my car and have the whole assembly work?
So if you have the "new" 964 latch cover that won't fit on your existing 964 latch handle assembly, but you buy a new 993 latch handle assembly, you should be fine. It looks to me like the new latch handle should use the same socket head bolts to secure it to the side panel so as long as you get the proper screws to hold the latch cover to the latch handle everything should work. If I recall correctly it can be fiddly to get the body mount hex socket bolts into the correct position in the outer holes to attach the handle (you can't just poke them through the inner hole because it is sized to only be big enough for the appropriate hex key tool).
Here are some pics of the new latch handle frame that might help:
Good luck!

When I first bought the new handle cover, I was trying to figure out what the heck Porsche had done with this assembly to make it so the part that should have fit perfectly, didn't! I did a bunch of web searches for the 993 part number to see if I could visualize what they had done. These pics turned up somewhere. I grabbed copies and put them on my tablet so I could explain to my local Porsche dealership parts guys exactly why I was frustrated and unhappy about having to return the handle cover that I had waited 3 months for them to deliver!
I was actually quite disappointed at their lack of concern with this. It was like "Oh that's interesting, I guess you just have to replace everything", as if it was no problem. I still can't imagine how Porsche could leave the same part number on a redesigned item that is totally incompatible with the original assembly.
Cheers!
