Default Chain noise at start

Happy weekend!
Recently I hear a chain noise when I start the car in the morning after or during the day no noise.
It could be lack of oil or chain loose?I was thinking the chain tensioner maybe?

Thanks

I get the same thing and I always think that’s when it’s time to add a little bit of oil. Completely unscientific and no idea if it does anything but makes me feel better. I do think it quiets it down a little. Someone with way more knowledge will have a better explanation I’m sure.

Chain noise is not a good thing. From easy to hard, I would look at:
- Oil bridges. If they are clogged you won't get enough oil to the tensioners. Pull them and clean. Use new o-rings when installing.
- Second would be the chain tensioner. They are relatively easy to pull but not sure how you would test them outside the engine. Left and right are different so make sure you keep them apart
- The chain ramps do wear out over time. When I pulled mine, the had pretty deep grooves. This can be done with engine in the car but it is pretty involved as you need to open the chain boxes. Bumper, exhaust, engine carrier and ac bracket need to come off.
- Finally, and this is a worst case scenario, your chains are worn. To replace them, you are looking at a complete engine overhaul. On the other hand, this is an unlikely scenario unless you have a very high miles engine.

Good luck

Is the noise only for the first few seconds or is it longer? A video clip with sound would probably help.

Thanks so much good explanation it might be old springs might need to be replaced. I need to do that plus the gaskets they might be too old.

+1 on the chain tensioners to start with. Not to expensive and an easy DIY
