Default Gas cap not clicking / hard to remove

Hey all

My gas cap has been getting harder and harder to remove, today I could barely budge it. Its also gotten quite hard to get it to "click" when putting it back. I've read some threads where folks are trying to get rid of gas smell and point to issues with the cap and or ovalized neck.

Start with a new cap and go from there? https://www.delawareporscheparts.com...ap-99320127100

no harm in replacing it. if you need a new filler neck can always replace that after trying the cap

if you want somethink a bit nicer than the red plastic one there is this: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKUCLFCAP.html

Rus - If you have a gas smell, change the filler neck. Its a 15 minute job. It solved my smell issue.

Rob I get a little bit of smell, occasionally. The neck appears to be NLA? https://www.delawareporscheparts.com...A0My0wMg%3D%3D

It was superseded by the 993 neck (as you see), but the 993 one doesn't seem to have the same design flaws. I replaced mine with one out of a junked 993 and it solved the problem instantly.

Other vendors seem to list it in stock. Not cheap. I'll start with the gas cap and see... https://www.fvd.net/us-en/9932010430...aded-fuel.html

@r-mm
You can still get the 964 Fuel Filler Neck part # 964-201-043-07 from Pelican for $200

https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...43-07-OEM&fc=Y

note however that this is version -07, and according to the Porsche PET version -07 is for M150 / M193 coded cars, (150 = leaded fuel / 193 = Japan).

question for the group here: I have a Japan RoW car and have been investigating the fuel smell in the front trunk too and I'm considering replacing the Filler Neck and gas cap. Do i need to use this -07 version, or can i use another version (ie the 993 version now) since I'm now running it in North America. ie: is the difference of -07 due to some different design vs the 00-06 versions or to accomodate Japanese fuel (which i'm obviously not using)? The PET doesn't list ANY other Japanese specific parts for the fuel system, so i'm curious why there is a special Filler Neck

Can non Japanese cars use -07 (much cheaper than that the newer 993 part) ?

Thanks. But, personally: I'm generally suspicious of PP seems like they've become a bot site that lists every part regardless of availability then you get news once you hit buy. I just about never buy from them especially Genuine, always go to Delaware or Sunset.

You want the newer 993 part, it was superseded for a reason. It vents much more effectively than the 964 neck, especially with modern fuel pumps.
