Default 964 interior trim pricing

I just received an interior trim piece for my 964 - lock pillar trim - pn 911-555-757-00-05T. Great customer service from the Porsche dealer - no complaints.

So here’s the question. The part itself is approx 12”x4” - it’s a strip of embossed vinyl. I haven’t checked it yet against the original trim piece, however I’m sure that it will be an exact match. The cost of this part - this strip of embossed vinyl - was $181 prior to shipping.

I know that I am fortunate to be able to buy a brand new trim piece for my 964 - I get that. The question is why does it cost $181? According to the box it was in, it was manufactured in June 2019.

Any idea what contributes to the price of $181?

Small lot manufacturing, warehousing, handling and shipping make all spare parts expensive.
Many interior parts for the 964 are NLA. I'm completing the restoration of my interior and every piece was recovered by a local auto trim shop.

Yeah, I’d say a lot of it is just supply and demand. Plenty of demand. Not a lot of supply. Like mentioned, small batches of trim are produced. BMW’s have the same issue, if you want a new piece of center console trim, you’re looking at nearly $1k.

Is this you’re first Porsche?

Dont worry, you’ll soon reflexively reach for the KY.

Heh, no, and honestly the first time I’ve ever been prompted to post about the price of a part for my 964 or my 993.

You can buy the exact material in yards lengths for not much. I made my own pieces when I did my entire interior. Way cheaper than buying from porsche. The original material gets shiny over time from product.

Beautiful interior. Where did you find the material?

Cobalt may have another source, but I have previously ordered from World Upholstery and Sierra Madre (although that was for fabric, not leather) and had good success with them both.
