Default Running Problems Return - Factory Parts Warranty?

My running problems that were remedied last July by a new cylinder head temp sensor have returned. The symptoms are identical (car loses power under throttle and the idle turns to a nasty lumpy fart - yup!), so my questions are two-fold:

1. Is there a factory warranty on parts replaced at an official dealership, or must it be taken up solely with their service department?

2. Will the car run without the temperature sensor connected? I realize that it will not start without the sensor attached, but once started, could I simply disconnect the electrical connection in the engine compartment to provide a temporary solution to the problem and avoid having to tow the car to the shop? Will this damage the car at all?

As usual, thanks in advance for your responses!

I can now say with certainty that the car will not run without the temp sensor being connected. I pulled the left wheel off of the car tonight to see if I could get a visual inspection of the sensor. All appeared in order, so it seems that it is a failure of the component itself. It seems to me that this should not have failed twice within nine or so months. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the added stress on such a sensor?

Not that this thread is getting much attention, but I have called the dealership and determined that there is indeed a one-year warranty on the temperature sensor. The problem? I have to tow the car there, and my cynicism is so strong with dealers that I feel like inevitably, they will trace the "cause" as some other "problem" after running four or so hours of preciously expensive "diagnostics" thereby lightening my wallet AND avoiding the warranty claim. What a wonderful business model!

Bit the bullet and bought the part from Pelican via 2-day air. I will post to the board about my install luck.

Doesn't sound like it matters now, however, Porsche parts have a two year warranty.

I called Porsche North America to discuss my situation and they suggested that I submit a reimbursement request to their customer service department if I discover that the part is defective. I am hoping that they will support those of us that (try) to do our own maintenance.

Some dealerships, particularly that operate mail order departments, accept returns, and often even sell at a discount. Send me a PM or email and I can give you a name.
