My new to me 964 C2... I'm back in a Porsche
This is my detailed account of my BAT buy, fly, drive a 31-year-
old Porsche.
I have been a member here for almost 20 years. Many, many years ago Imagine Auto (RIP) used my 2000 Boxster S as the base to create the Procharger C1 kit that was in European magazine and Excellence. That took forever BUT went very well. Unfortunately after some time I had leak down issues and went to a 3.6 out of a 2002 996 that was done by a well known guy in the PNW. One day I was being a dumba$$ racing a liter bike and wrecked it (in all honesty I should be dead). I grounded myself from fun cars (besides my SRT8 GC) for about 6 years. About 4 years ago I purchased a mint 2006 E46 M3 (SMG/Vert) and loved it, BUT knew it would only be a sunny day car. Those are few and far to find living in Seattle. So, about a month later I purchased a 2004 JCW R53 MINI and started a BIG build. I cannot articulate how much I enjoy driving that car and if you have not driven one find a well-sorted, modified one. I have built the short block, added a big valve head, race cam, LSD, TVS900 super charger, PSS10's among a laundry list of suspension components and other performance parts that would make anyone scratch their head. BUT something was always missing...I ALWAYS wanted an air-cooled Porsche, more specifically a 964.
Fast forward to about 3 weeks ago while on BAT as I was on several times a day, to the extent of telling Google to "set alarm for x -time" because an auction was ending. I am certain all the auction sites suck you in until it becomes an addiction! Well, one with the preferred colors came across with the right "look", C2, manual, and just enough issues to keep it in my price range. I jumped into the bidding not thinking I would win. When I won I literally looked up and said "F%&K now what do I do?" I instantly texted a friend that buys cars for a dealership who had been asking to buy my M3 for almost 8 months. At that point, I sent the screenshot to my wife and said "well...we own a Porsche". My wife had been telling me to just buy one for a while at this point. She is supportive and very excited (good news). At that point I called my closest friend for over 30 years from where I grew up in St. Louis and said "what are you doing next weekend". Long of the short, I flew him to San Francisco where he just happened to have a 10-hour overnight layover in Seattle. This enabled us to take the same flight the next morning down to SFO. Obviously, we went and had beers as soon as we got to my home and booked an Uber for 430AM. The 4am came very early; mainly, because I couldn't sleep and the Uber didn't show so I had to call another that was across the city. Once landed, I had a work Zoom call, and we hopped in an hourlong Uber to get my new car. The 1st Uber at SFO drove around for 35 minutes never finding us. I cancelled that Uber and got another (I just wanted my damn car and start the 1000 mile journey). The 2nd Uber found us in 10 minutes.
Now, I had spoken to the now previous owner a few times after I won the bid and he is a good guy that has a hell of an older mustang he takes to tracks all over California. He is a Ford master tech that works at a dealership and had purchased the car for his wife as her DD. Over the next few years he did a top end rebuild, clutch job, and several other preventative maintenance items. About 6 years ago, the car was parked after the wife purchased a MINI to DD. Unfortunately, his wife passed in September of this year and through our conversations I could tell he was struggling with it. The car at this point was just a reminder.
My friend and I made the 1000 mile drive back with no issue and just one stop overnight in Eugene, Oregon. So far, I know it needs:
- Complete suspension refresh (with coilovers)
-Tires (after suspension is done)
-Personal touches (SSK (Numerica Racing, pedals, RS Carpet?, stereo is JUNK!)
-964 frown fixed
-RS Door Cards
-Exhaust
-Front splitter
I look forward to learning from everyone here. I have been dreaming of a 964 since the prices for an RS America is what I paid for my C2. Please feel free to offer any advice or history if you know it on the car.
I'll be documenting with pics some of the items on IG unless I'm asked to do so here.

Nice work. I was loving that thing when it was live. And for 1/4 the price of the other one? Best deal in a minute. You owe that guy a beer for helping you sneak out the back lol.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

I watched the auction on BAT and really think you got a keeper at bargain price (in today's market). I joined the 964 club thirteen months and six thousand miles ago and could not be happier. I paid up at the time to get the ideal car, I have put money in subsequently, and I don't look back/or at investment aspect. It is a car that will sell when they take my license. Fun, comfortable, fast enough (stock) to get in trouble but enjoyable at just over the legal parameters. Given your journey sounds very much like mine I will follow you and Stella down the road on instagram to see how it continues to track. Enjoy and congratulations!!!

Thank you! That stick thing is a controller for the Sony Mobile ES head unit. it was the "it" head unit 20+ years ago.
I have already had the ding taken out via PDR last week and also pulled and replaced the stereo. I have a LOT of parts on the way from a night that combined "black friday sale's and a few glasses of vino"

So just a quick update. I'm LOVING the world of air-cooled. Honestly I am slightly obsessed! So far I have lost track of the dollar figure (planed obsolescence = plausible deniability to the wife.)
Quick list:
DRS spring plates, PSS10'S,
Tarret camber plates, FVD motor mounts, Rennline (well a lot with Rennline), Momo Protitipo steering wheel and matching Momo shift **** to horn button,
FVD airbox with K&N filter, Wheels refinished and ceramic coated, New continental extreme contact tires, New 6 channel amp, Kappa 3 way front speakers, 8W3 sub, Continental head unit, Front Bumper (original was beyond saving)
RS brake ducts, Solid state relay,
replaced the center console, RS cubby
and probably some more...
As you can see OBSESSED...but it's everything that I have wanted it to be. I was afraid when I bought it and had only driven 1 air cooled 15 years ago that I wouldn't be impressed. Kinda like how you are not supposed to meet your heros. I'm really happy now that I am doing all the things that had been deferred to make it my own. Thank you all for all the tips and having this site. I'm glad to be back in a Pcar!
