Default looking for 3.5" round tail pipe

i'm currently running the round 102mm (4") FVD exhaust tip on my 964, but it's simply too big for my taste. the 3.5 round is much better looking to me, but the only option i can find is the one from Cargraphic. vivid racing has it on their website, but they confirmed for me this morning that the shipping of $250 - on top of price and tax - is actual. $250 to ship a 1lb. exhaust tip!! does anyone else know of a source for this piece?

https://www.vividracing.com/-p-15096...xoCkuUQAvD_BwE

any other 3.5 round or possibly 4" oval tips available somewhere? single wall is what i'm looking for, so that limits the options. an oval tip that looks like the oval tips on a WB 993 would be great also.

I had the same issue a few years ago looking for something similar for my car. Vivid racing didn't have anything in stock and it would take weeks and $$$ to get the parts shipped to the USA. I went with the Dansk "964 Look" tailpipe on my car from Design911 in the UK. I bought it back in 2017 and tt the time it was $79 and $38 for shipping. Shipping wasn't free but it was a lot cheaper and faster than the any of the US based companies.

I just looked it up and the same tailpipe I purchased is now just under $130 shipped to the USA from Design911.

the 964 'look' tailpipe appears to be a rolled, 102mm round tip. the one i have from FVD is basically identical to the 102mm, single wall tip above it on the design911 page you included.

i've now made contact with a direct representative at cargraphic in germany and he is going to quote me shipping from cargraphic directly. confirmed my shipping address with him this morning. we'll see what happens. the single wall, 3.5" should be just the look i want. i guess it's just something that doesn't get stocked by their distributors as the 102mm tip does.

I imagine that most large companies don't stock or even manufacture many 964 performance parts anymore because the market just isn't there. Our car made for 1989 1/2 to 1994 and many of the parts are unique to 964, not used on 993 or pre-89 cars. They made roughly 62,000 964s in total worldwide. Compare that to the 175,000 996's made worldwide or the roughly 300,000 Toyota Camrys sold in the USA in 1993 alone. Performance parts are getting hard to find unless they are custom made/ordered.

i get the low need for such parts, but my comment was more about why just the 3.5 cargraphic tip is hard to come by. you can get other cargraphic tips from vendors, 102mm tips of many designs, but the 3.5 doesn't seem to be stocked by anyone. i guess i'm the only fool who thinks this one looks good.

Lets get those production numbers right it was only 58,280 964's sold not nearly 62,000. BTW most of the parts Cargraphic, FVD and others sell are not made by them they have just been cornering the markets by being third part distributors.

I have an original # 3 and a pair of #5 twin pipes for my turbo. The #3 was made by Dansk and the twin pipe tech art.

Either way, Toyota made as many vehicles in a week in 2014 than Porsche made 964’s during the whole production run lol. It’s crazy just how few were made.

What is really crazy is how few remain. It is probably one of the most cannibalized air-cooled cars. So many of these were chopped up and parted out for their engines. Many more tracked and crashed then came Singer. I estimate less than half remain but it is hard to tell.

i heard back from cargraphic and they have the tip in stock and will ship direct. tip is $200 and they will ship for $120. still a little difficult to wrap my head around $120 to ship a 1-2lb package.

Maybe they are sending it air freight? With all the backup at the ports, sending it via air means you would actually get it sometime this lifetime. Also make sure they aren't charging you VAT since you live in the US. That could knock the price down a bit.

I really wish we had something similar to the UK here in the US where you can see how many of a given car are still on the road (i.e. registered/MOT'd). While it wouldn't represent all the cars, I would be super curious as to how many are still road worth and being used as it would at least give us a view into it.

FedEx Freight was listed on the quote. Part and freight were the only items listed.

what strikes me every time i go to any car event is just how many special cars are out there that are seldom if ever seen regularly. the 964 is a bit of a different animal, as it was not collectible at all in the beginning when it was less than appreciated. that has changed obviously, but many changed hands for low prices and were likely driven/maintained accordingly.
