C4 Flash

On my 1990 C4 cab, the rear brake light panel has faded to almost pink over the years. (before i owned the car) It now lives in my garage and is well cared for now. I want to replace the entire rear brake light assembly and re-new the nice rich red look of that panel. The car is black so the newer brake panel will also match the new third brake light on the basket handle i added. Any thoughts on where and how much? and how tough to do myself?

This is a common old problem - I did the same thing myself when I got my '89 C4.

The centre panel is really easy to remove - it's only 3 screws!! Don't be tempted to buy a secondhand one though - it's likely to be as bad as the one you are replacing. There are a host of specialist suppliers (I got mine from Europorsha (http://www.europorscha.com/) - they will ship worldwide. The other thing that's worth mentioning is that the new centre panel will make the rear light units look 10 times worse than they do now - so budget on replacing them too. Overall cost of mine was around £400 (circa $700) so don't expect to do it on a shoestring - but the new lights look GREAT!!!
