Arrow 1992 C2 Questions

Hi everyone, I'm new to rennlist and I joined because I'm getting ready to purchase c2 964. I'm looking to get a 1992 C2 (automatic or manual) and I was wondering what the value is going to look like in the next few years. One with all original parts and no accident damage. What should I be paying with no mechanical issues and sub 100k miles. I'm not very familiar with how the market has been recently as I am fairly new to actually researching the 964. I've been wanting one for about a year now since I had seen one in person. Any and all information is welcome! Thank you in advance.

my suggestion is to spend significant time researching the the 964 and the current 964 market. you're looking at a massively competitive market with all-time high prices at the moment. there are literally thousands of data points you can tap into that will help support your decisions as you move forward. your inquiry is literally so broad it would take into account the full 964 spectrum - models, years, auction results, private sales, mods, options and so on... look into the specific 964 models, learn what you can, and then post much more specific questions - that would be my advice.

You can check bring a trailer to get a rough idea of where prices are. There is usually pretty significant price differences depending on manual vs auto, cab vs targa vs coupe, C2 vs C4, color, maintenance records, mileage, etc. So I agree with above, do lots of research before your purchase to narrow down what you want and at what price point.

In the next few years? Nobody knows for certain, but the collector car market has taken some wide swings over time and a lot of 'blue Chip' investment examples have gone out of favor. We are dealing with what the 'in' car is at the moment, so nothing is cast in stone.
Buy what you like and will enjoy today. That is where the enjoyment is!

I wouldn't worry about the mileage; many higher miles cars that have been well looked after are superior examples to lower mileage cars that have sat for long periods.

You could also get two more driven wheels and a lower bill how many win-wins like that are there in the world...

Happy hunting.

I agree 100%, I had a C2 and now I have a nice modded C4.

Much prefer the C4, the car feels much more planted and is sharp as a knife.

Is there a specific reason you settled on a 1992 MY? Why not a 93 or 94? The values of the later MY 964's are higher in general than the earlier cars. There were many improvements made to these over the years with the majority done by 92 but if you are looking for an investment you need to think as late MY as you can find and equally low miles. The only true investment cars are sub 20k miles these days and very difficult to find. Nice clean accident free 964's with original paint will be a long time spent looking as finding one with all original paint is next to impossible. The few I know about sold in the $200k range. Rare colors also command a premium but all in figure you need to budget a min of 6 figures and goes up from there.

I don't see how these can go much higher but we said that before. The beauty of these has usually been buy in at one price drive it for a number of years and sell it at break even or make a few bucks. (assuming you bought wisely) Lately it seems you can make a profit. I never was a believer in cars as investments and find it a dangerous game but the 964 C2 is probably the best of the air-cooled 911's IMO still retaining the classic lines and the trailing arm experience with some major improvements over the earlier 911's. There will always be a following and very few still in existence. Nothing against AWD but for me it has to be a C2 or I would end up converting it. How one feels over another is how you setup the car. A clean C4 will be a good buy but never the investment a clean C2 will be IMO.

PS: the tiptronic cars will never be the investment car a manual trans car will be.
