Default DME Relay Questioin

1990 964 C-4
Was always under the impression that the car would not start without the DME relay in place. After a valve adjustment, I pulled then relay so I could get some oil circulating before starting. Car started anyway. Shut it down after 2 seconds, then plugged in the relay and started normally. SO, did the car use whatever fuel that was left in the fuel rails and injectors to Start, since the fuel pump was not working?

Are you sure you pulled the right relay? The DME relay supplies power to the fuel pump and engine computer. Your car should not have started without it.

It states DME relais.
If your engine starts without the relay installed means fuel pump is getting its power from another source. Maybe a 'temp' jumper.

Yep, it was the brake booster relay that I pulled.
