Some of this rings vaguely familiar - I went the opposite way a couple of years back. I bolted a 993 Turbo engine onto a G50/21 and we had an issue fitting the gearbox because the Turbo engine sat further back. I can't remember how we got around it but it was cheap fix.

The engine carriers are different for the turbo vs the N/A cars. The cases are the same length.

The engine cases are the same- but its looking like the large ring transaxles are longer. I know for a fact that mine is.

They are longer. I have a shift linkage from my 94 turbo and another from my C2. Unfortunately, I can't find the picture but the shift linkage from the turbo is about 2" shorter than that if the C2. That would make the transaxle sit forward from the standard mounting points by about 2"s. I will try to measure the distance from the tub to the fan housing on both my turbo and C2 and see what the actual difference in positioning is. My G50/20 and G50/31 both are the same housing lengths as my G50/03 and G50/05's. Only real difference other than some minor casting changes are the nose cone design.

Yeah- its the g50/52 that has the larger ring according to CMS- not sure if its longer but the bell housing is the same type as my g64/51 (the donor unit for my car) and is a different number than the other 964 housings. Interesting that the 94 turbo has the axle further forward. I noticed that the transaxle carrier is the same part number for all manual 964's...?

Any need for a large pinion housing for your high HP- I may have one for you!

I'll keep that in mind. thx

I did compare the C2 against the turbo and the turbo engine sits 1 3/8" further back than the N/A car so it seems whatever the differences are were split. If I have the time to drop the belly pan and measure the G50/52 I will try to do that. I am interested in knowing the differences. Funny how you can work on these things and sometimes not pick up on subtle differences.

As previously stated the the G50/50 - 52 and variants have a bigger ring gear and longer bellhousing this is the OP's issue

Yes I finally had a chance to measure and the bell housing is 1" longer at 14" vs than the standard G50/03 etc at 13". The center casting is identical at 8". This doesn't explain the shifter linkage difference in length though.

Finally found the picture of the shift linkage for the turbo vs the N/A 964. The N/A is the (lower) longer rod with the bushing and the turbo has the goldenrod (universal joint) type end (upper).

I am curious if the turbo engine sits further back due to the trans length difference or so they could fit the I/C and other bits into the engine bay and still clear the lid or both?
