Thank you for the positive feedback. Glad you are enjoying your MAF kit.

It has provided all of the benefits mentioned above without any of the negatives. Throttle response is much improved and drivability remained unchanged. Individual results may very but I've been very impressed with the Vitesse kit. I've had it on the car several years now.

I'm assuming your question is related to the Vitesse MAF kit.

The MAF kit we supply comes with a cone filter. It is possible to connect the MAF sensor to the factory air box instead of cone filter. You will need an adapter plate (bolts up to air box on one side, and has a 3" hose fitting on the MAF side). You will have to position the MAF sensor properly (by rotating/clocking it) to reduce/eliminate any turbulence. Some customers went further and modified the air box to have a round opening.

I have not compared the cone filter vs. air box. We only use the cone filter.

If your plans change and you want to go with MAF, feel free to contact me.

The first 964 I drove back in 2012 had an MAF conversion and over 100k mi. Still regret not buying it. Car was a beast! Def a mod I’m going to consider for the targa.

Hi guys !
Some update about my car :

I sent back the MAF kit to FVD, and the motronic so that they put it back to how it was before. They ''lost'' the original chip inbetween, and then said they finally found it.
I put the AFM back in the car, and the problem is still here. The idle is crappy, with vibrations and loud noises.

So here is my question : is it possible there is a problem elsewhere that the MAF kit could have amplified or created ?

Any help will be appreciated !

If problem still existing with old setup, MAF conversion is not reason.
I had HAL-sensor cable broken when I installed MAF. Before MAF installation it stalled easily and some power was lost. After MAF installation car running really bad. Then I figured what was the reason that it running badly. I suggested to check that.

Also someone said that coil might be problem so I upgrade those as well. Just in case.

Thank you for these ideas. I will check the hall sensor and the wires.
The thing I really don't get is that the car ran great before the MAF was fitted. And now, I can see the problem persists even with the stock AFM.
Maybe the MAF is more sensitive and showed there is something wrong ?

I would suggest following Goughary's Intake madness thread and doing some or all of what's in there. I did the basic version, skipping the bearings and cerakoting but doing a very thorough ultrasonic clean of all parts, replacing hoses, clamps, and other bits. The result is nothing short of astounding. My throttle response is the sharpest of all my cars and even my friends who drive it comment on it first thing. It makes the character of the car and feels like an extension of my foot and mind. My car has 130k miles and when I first got it, the first 1/4 of throttle pedal travel was like prodding a sleeping horse. In other words, don't discount the stock system until you know that yours is running tip top and only then if you're not happy, explore MAF or ITBs IMO.

Totally agree with this. I opened my AFM also and gave it a good clean. The track was pretty clean except for a couple of spots so I carefully cleaned it too. Throttle performance is now excellent.

Thanks for this reply. I think there is a problem in this area.
Today, I did some more tests : I opened the AFM, cleaned the track,l and the socket, and put it back on the car.
I used my scantool with T-obd for the first time. At the beginning, I had no fault code on the motronic.
But then I started the car, found out it was still running rough, and had a fault code n°23 : oxygen regulation (intake air leak?).
I also noticed that the car spits black from the exhaust, so I guess it's too rich.
Maybe I should open a new topic with a correct name, this may take a while to solve !

Are you sure you have the correct chip?

A Few things to check (not in any order):
- Check fuel pressure.
- If it's an early DME, set FQS to position #0.
- Read via OBD the values for Cylinder head temp and Intake temp.
- Verify the Idle and Wot switches via OBD or voltmeter at the DME connector.

A few test to note any change:
- Disconnect AFM. Car will run, but you'll get CEL.
- Disconnect O2 sensor.

Hi John !

Thank you for your reply and ideas. About the chip, I'm not sure. I opened the DME, I attach some pictures of the inside. The cut and then soldered item is visible.

This car is from Japan, is it a different motronic and chip than in Europe ?

Thanks a lot !
Alexis

The Motronic is the same for all 964s, the chip is an original Porsche/Bosch, but maybe for a different region, e.g. Japan. The cut component is not used in later 964 Motronics.

Thanks a lot John.

Today I had the opportunity to perform one more test : my motronic was plugged to another 964 that is completely stock, and runs perfectly. When its owner started it, it ran exactly like mine, really rough.

So I guess my motronic has a problem.
