Ran into a roadblock assembling my manual aero mirrors and, while I found a lot of helpful tips about the spring compression, I didn’t find anything on the below.
Am I simply supposed to thread these long screws into the backing plate? The backing plate is not threaded, and I’ve already broken one off trying to gently thread it through.
part #10 is listed as a oval-head screw M3x30 and looks like a self tapping screw in the picture. Unfortunately the parts diagram describes some fasteners as "screws" when I would call them bolts. #4 is called a reinforcement plate. In any case I would tap those holes with the correct thread. The spacers look as per the picture. I can't recall what was used as "screws" when I had my mirrors apart some 17 years ago, damn I'm old.

Thanks for the reply. For any future searchers: I ended up tapping each hole with an M3x0.5 tap and assembled everything as pictured. Seems like it’ll work!
