Sound deadening mat conversion for '90 964
Happy Thanksgiving all,
I'm replacing the carpet in my 1990 C4 manual and had to order a superseded part for the passenger sound deadening mat that goes under the carpet. Apparently the wiring harness was routed diagonally in later models and the new mat has a different cutout for it. There is a wire cover (96461234000) that is to be used to retrofit my setup. My question is that there seems to be a bunch of slack in the cables if I reroute along the new diagonal. Has anyone done this who might have some experience to share?
- cut a wider center tunnel in the new mat.... OR
- reroute wiring harness along the new mat’s diagonal tunnel
the old mat has a wider channel to route the harness. The new diagonal groove is apparent in the new part mat.
Existing harness route on my passenger floor.
Plastic harness cover (96461234000)set in the diagonal channel on the new part mat.

I bought my carpet set form Pelican.... the supplier is Autobahn interiors and is the black silver knit (non-RS). The sound deadening front and rear floor pads are factory. Those I picked up at my local dealer. I ended up cutting the sound proofing on the passenger side rather than moving the wiring harness. I also had to modify the plastic tunnel that came with the superseded part. Shoot me a PM and I'm happy to answer any questions about the job. I'm just about finished now.
