Default WTB: 964 G pipe

Looking to drop the Large muffler box on the 964.
anybody have a G pipe lying around to delete this large muffler?

anybody ever try the “long” G pipe as opposed the “small”?

I've had the really long one, the jpipe which is the medium long one, the g pipe and a cup pipe.

Gpipe and cup pipe drone the least.

Jpipe is ok but drones a bit

Long pipe drones so bad i had to remove it after a week. It was aweful.

I think- but I'm not sure- part of the problem was the attachment to the bracket at the front side of the motor.- for the longer pipes. I imagine buffering that connection would get rid of a bit of vibration and may change the drone frequency.

I have the j pipe and really like it. it’s loud with windows down but fine windows up.

I don’t detect any drone with mine. Definitely nothing on the scale of some dual outlets I’ve had. I have a 100 cell cat and the stock primary with it.

the J pipe is longer and supposedly offers more "back pressure", however if drone is a result, that has to be annoying....

Yes - the drone is annoying. I had the jpipe on for a couple years. It was ok. The gpipe is not as loud and the drone is less.

Have to mention- due to the back pressure issue- if you aren't making changes to the fuel management and intake- you aren't going to get performance results.

As to the drone. Check out the exhaust madness thread- you can work with some baffling to change the resonant frequencies and eliminate the drone...

This is a bit off the question - but I kept the side muffler and replaced the rear muffler along the bumper with a straight pipe. It sounds very nice from outside the car but won't offer much more sound inside the car. But then - I have a Targa so the drone would be competing with the wind noise .

delete the cat. that’ll turn up the volume and bring in some valvetrain sounds

Plus one exactly (except I also have a cat bypass)

I have a Fabspeed cat bypass, stock primary exhaust, and j pipe. I love this combo. Sounds mean on a cold start up. The in-the-cabin noise is just awesome, the noise level is great either window down (a great mix of inside/outside roar) or windows up to hear all the mechanical and exhaust sounds without the wind noise.

I didn't know there were 3 different length secondary exhaust bypasses?
I'm not the biggest fan of the shortest bypass, sounds a bit too deep. I think I have the middle length bypass?

Quick start video (not a cold start, also sorry for the weird neighborhood block party music):

I just went thru this recently and I was noticing that depending on the thread, people called them different things and maybe the names can get clarified or better descriptions.

The Primary, Main or Long muffler/exhaust- This is the big heavy one shoved up between the engine and the rear bumper. It sits between the CAT and the Secondary muffler/exhaust (see description below). It’s heavy and I know this because I just reinstalled it recently.
-The replacement for this is commonly called a Cup Pipe or a Straight Pipe. Any other names or variations out there?

The Secondary, Final or Side muffler/exhaust. This is attached to the Primary exhaust and basically is attached to the exhaust tip.
-911Jetta asks a good question about the possibility that there may be a couple options for the Secondary Exhaust replacement.
-The replacement for this seems to have several names and the name may be dependent on the shape it looks like and/or it’s length.
-The Secondary Exhaust is commonly called a Secondary or Final bypass. It’s also referred to as a Short Pipe.

I have a G pipe which may be the one that is considered the shorter one. It’s a Fabspeed product and I have it attached to the original/stock Primary muffler and I also have a CAT Bypass. It is a deep sound and there isn’t any drone, I did this after having the same set up but I had a Cup Pipe from FabSpeed. That set up was super loud and I didn’t make many friends on the road when I was accelerating.

It sounds like 911Jetta has a J pipe which is Final/Secondary bypass but it is a little longer than mine. His start up video doesn’t sound as deep as mine so they must make different sounds based on their shape and length.

Perhaps there is a third final bypass variation which could be even longer?

Yes there is a third longer pipe. Cargraphic makes one and Scart makes one. I could be wrong on both names...but the pipe basically goes all the way to the bracket that the jpipe bolts to...and it's the same length as the oem secondary muffler.

I had one. Droned horribly. It lasted a week. Felt good though. More back pressure than the others. But the drone wasn't sustainable.

That long pipe used to be referred to as the Q pipe.

I didn’t know there was a longer, “Q” pipe. I have the medium one, like 911Jetta.

Who all manufactures the J pipe (the medium length)? I may try one of those instead of the shorter G pipe I have now. My set up now is good but a little bit more noise wouldn’t be bad. It’s the easiest one to replace so I can easily interchange them,

The one in the pic is cargraphic- but there are a bunch of them on the market, dansk makes a nice one as well.

Best bet is to keep an eye on eBay- they go quickly and usually pretty cheep.
