Default Intro

Hello all. I hope you and your families are healthy and well during this crazy time. I'm new to Rennlist, new to the 964 but certainly not new to Porsche. I've wanted a 964 since my freshman year in high school in 1989 when it was introduced! When I started driving, my first car was a 1986 Chevy Spectrum and I still remember having to pull over on the side of the road during hard rains. Back then, the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Mitsubishi 3000GT were the all weather rockets every boy dreamed of. I didn't! I wanted a Carrera 4! Expensive taste but if you don't dream, you'll never achieve.

After college, what I could afford was a 944 Turbo and I absolutely fell in love with it. I live in the Dallas area and Bob Norwood back then was big into Porsche. I remember hanging out late with him in his garage and figuring out ways to get more power out of the 4 cylinder. Miss that guy! Truly loved that car but sadly had to sell it to go back to grad school. Will always miss it and never be able to replace it.

Fast forward many years later, I've owned a few 944s, 996, 991, Cayman, and a couple of Cayennes but I always wanted a 964. After drooling over photos of Singer cars, I decided to purchase one and start a backdate. I first looked for "affordable" ones but all I can find were cabrios and I wanted a coupe. Finally, after much research, I found it! It's a 1990 C4 with only 68,500 original miles (two owner)! When it was delivered, I instantly fell in love and decided there is no way I'm going to cut or alter any body panel or the paint on this car. It's perfect.

So, I decided to keep the body as is and upgrade the suspension, lighting, sound, and interior. Except for the upholstery, I plan to do all the work myself. I'm not a mechanic and I'm sure I'm going to mess up and come back here for help! However, I'm blessed that at this time in my life I have the time and means to do something I truly enjoy and I'm not afraid to make mistakes. I know in the end I will be not only happy with the final product but also proud of my accomplishment.

My list:
  • Bilstein PSS10 (done)
  • Rennline camber plates & monoball top mounts
  • H&R sway bars
  • SS brake lines & ceramic pads (for low dust; not for track)
  • AWC Fuchish wheels (18x8 & 18x10)... just placed the order
  • Fabspeed primary & secondary muffler delete (done)
  • Rennline LED headlights (done)
  • All new exterior & interior LED bulbs
  • GT Classic Seats bucket seats (on order)
  • Momo Prototipo
  • Rennline lower dash delete
  • Car-bone vintage gauge faces (on order)
  • New front & rear speakers & compact sub (done)
  • Hidden bluetooth audio (under seat... done)
  • Remove all carpet and rubber sound insulation and install Killmat sound deadening (done)
  • Full custom interior (carpet, seats, panels)
  • Vinyl wrap (to protect original paint & change look)... going to try to match BRG or Brewster Green
So this is the list so far and I'm sure I'll add to it as I go. I am in no hurry to I'm going to take my time, share my work with my 10 year old son who LOVES everything Porsche and overall just enjoy the journey that I'm so blessed to be able to embark upon.

Here are a few photos, and thank you for reading. All the best!

Nice car, congratulations. I like your list of mods, best of luck and enjoy the journey.
which GT Classic bucket seat are you looking at? I’m vacillating between the long hood RS style bucket seats and, more period correct, Pole Position seats.

Thank you. I'm going with the Vallelunga seat and I've asked Stefan to modify the head rest to add a little flavor.

Congratulations on a great car. I'm not surprised you decided to keep it in 964 format. They really are attractive "as is" or with set up mods that look more aggressive but preserve the original image of the car.

Welcome, thanks for the great introduction. It's great to hear how people fall in love with these cars.
Looks like you found the right car, OR the right car found you. Either way you're already off to a great start, as the mods have started and new wheels are on order. It's already going to change so much.
Sharing it with your young son is the cherry on top. Bet he loves the sound of those muffler deletes.

Thank you so much. Yes, he loves the sound. I have a QP GTS and I deleted the resonator in lieu of X-pipe and he loves that too... but Porsche is always gonna be our favorite!
