Passed E check without cat installed
#4
I too live in Ohio and would like to tell you that e-check here is a joke! I just had my Porsche e-checked today, it passed. As far as the visual inspection, they looked under the front of my car and the middle of my car to check for leaks and to be sure it had a cat. Last time I checked the motor was in the back? Oh well at least we can get away without cats.

The law requires that the cat be present, regardless of tailpipe readings. You got a shop that did not know what a 964 cat looks like. You beat the system, but technically you did not pass. Sound advice: "be careful when breaking the law". There are people out there with no sense of humor (none in this group I am sure). I would not publicize this if I got away with it.

Not surprised
Up here in Canada when I got mine e-tested they were so surprised with how low the emmisions were that they asked to have there machine recalibrated and got even lower emissions on the second test

This is suprising to me as I took my car for a smog check an it put out more than 2X the allowable levels of CO without the cat. This is in Illinois. Do they have more strict limits?
I'm puttin' the cat back on to pass and will probably just leave it on. I guess this really begs the question: Does 2-3 hp potential gain make that much seat of the pants difference? I'll keep the secondary bypass in place and don't suspect there will be much change in the sound I enjoy right now. BTW since this is my first Porsche and I bought it with the cat and secondary bypass already intalled, I really don't have a personal frame of reference.
