Default Skyfi XM Sat Radio Installation Advice

I am hooks on XM and I am looking where to put it in am 91 C4. I am going to set the antenna on the rear shelf and route the wire up under the center console to the dash area. I am thinking about using chassis hooks (industrial velco) to mount it to the right (LHD) of the ashtray. Has anyone else put in a Skyfi? I would appreciate your input.

Thanks

I used a UltiMount by ProFit to mount a Delphi SkyFi Receiver in my M-B ML-500 tow vehicle http://store.myradiostore.com/prul.html . You could just stick the UltiMount adhesive pad to the underside of dash, I also used some screws.

I installed the XM Commander in my Mini Cooper S. I think it would work better in a 911 because the display/controller is very small http://store.myradiostore.com/xmcommander.html .

Also the reception will be poor if you mount the antenna in side the car.

Depends on the car, and perhaps where you live.

I have a Terk antenna (looks like a computer mouse) on the package shelf and it works perfectly. I too was planning to go with a proper roof mount, but another 964 had it on the package shelf. He said it worked fine, and he was right.

In fact, XM does say that it must go outside the car, but the 964 seems to be an exception.

Phil;

It is a satellite based radio service with ~100 different channels of programming. It's like Direct TV for radio. See the following; www.xmradio.com

I set the antenna on the rear self and even sitting in the garage I am getting three bars.

I wish there was a better place to put the Skyfi, then to the right of the ash tray.

Hi,
I also am hooked on XM radio. What a great service. At first I mounted the antenna outside the car. Now it resides on the dashboard in/on the windsheild air vent. Works just fine, with 3 bars of reception. I had a piece of angle brace...fairly soft metal. Made about 3 bends in it and attached the cradle that was provided with the receiver. The other end fits inside the center vent. Works very well, and not in the way of anything. Also easy to remove it. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.
