Default Is this normal?

When I start my car up from cold I get quite a heavy exhaust smell coming through the air vents.

As soon as the car is warming (i.e no more than 5 minutes) it goes away.

I can avoid it to some extent by closing all the air vents on start up and then re-opening them after a time.

I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and what could be the cause?

Dear Adrian,
Yes this is normal especially if the wind is behind the 964. The fresh air flapper valve is wide open (design) and the 964 does tend to puff on cold start. The exhaust fumes flow forward in the air and are drawn into the 964 through the fresh air valve.
If this annoys you, what you can do is select recirculation before you start up but keep the windows closed. It might help a bit.
Summary: There is a great big hole at the front letting the fumes in. This hole closes with driving speed.
Ciao,
Adrian

Never had this.
Lots of other smells, though, including some from the driver..

The friction material/synth oil smell is actually now very evocative of my 964!

Yes, funny this...I walk into my garage and smell this and immediately feel like going for a drive, in fact I can imagine it and long for it when I'm sat in my office on boring afternoons!

Cheers,
