964 C2 Engine Wiring Harness Alternatives

My Engine harness is getting old and brittle and the wires near the alternator melted which has been documented before. Searched the board and went online to all the usual parts suppliers and they are "out of stock". Question is: are my only choices to buy new from Kroon or try to get lucky with a used one? This is not an inexpensive item, thus the question. Thanks!

Try Henry Schmidt - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-e...spy-wires.html
Not sure if he does 964 but would be surprised if he couldn't do it custom.
Kroon, in my opinion, is incredibly expensive. I was looking at some of their parts for my 912 restoration and ended up fabricating a FULL VEHICLE harness using extremely nice parts and buying nice tools for less less than some of their sub-harnesses would have cost. I realize time is money and you may not want to take that on.

I picked up one to use as the basis for a custom harness for an aftermarket EFI, but haven’t traced it all yet. Puzzled why it wouldn’t. There’s only more control valves and parts on a 993, not less. How did you reach this conclusion?

I read some other threads that concluded it cannot be retrofit and things like the ground wire being outside the shroud, the pins needing rework on the modules and all the extra wiring for varioram made me stop as I am not an electrical expert by any stretch.

The ground point moving may not be a bad thing. Looking closer at the harness, the largest obstacle seems to be the conversion of the 12 pole T31 connector (911-612-884-00) to a 20/21 pole AMP connector (1-827610-1). A small adapter harness should do the trick, in addition to appropriately terminating some of the extra connectors on the harness.
From the perspective of plug n' play, this may not be the easiest option. I wouldn't conclude that it cannot be retrofitted though. If anyone can provide clean copies of the 993 wiring diagrams, I'd be willing to map out the connections.

I'm not sure if Dennis Powell does 964 engine harnesses or not, but he makes a nice product. I specialize in engine harness for 914-6 conversions and refer all 911 inquiries to Dennis. His email is: powell3080@gmail.com

I sent Dennis an email. At this time he's not doing 964 engine harnesses. If I wasn't booked solid for 6 months I'd look into it a little deeper. I purchased a used harness (with problems) to see what it would take, but all I've done is open the box and give it a once over

Spoke to Henry and he said they will put one together if I send the old one for the plugs and pieces. Its a decent alternative if I strike out in the used market and appreciate the suggestion. Also thanks for the Dennis suggestion - much appreciated.

I wonder if a partial refurb wouldn't solve this. Meaning full replacement of wires that melted and re-heatshrink to protect the ones that are brittle since its the insulation not the conductors that are brittle.
If you don't mind the cost and time I can't see you going wrong with Henry.
