Default front tires rubbing

Hi,

I have a 90 C2 with 225/45 17 tires mounted on RUF 8 x 17 wheels, with a 56.7 offset. The tires rub the inside of the wheel well metal at full lock.

Can someone recommend how to install a stop to keep the tires from rubbing, while maintaining "ALMOST" full steering radius?

Thanks

You may want to look into installing larger steering stops on your inner tie rods.
I do not have the part number in front of me, but search it and you will find it!

I wonder if you need a 5mm spacer. I run 235 on a 8” wheel with a 50mm offset and don’t rub anywhere.

Either get part# 964-347-325-02 which is the 10mm steering stop Porsche recommends for 17” wheels, or add 5mm wheel spacers and call it the day.
Installing the stops is not hard, it just takes a little time and patience so you don’t mess up your alignment. The hardest part is getting the dust boots back in place but a pair of bicycle tire levers will make the job much easier.

Where is it rubbing? There is a TSB for 17" wheels.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will try the 5 mm spacers first, since its the easiest solution.

There are so many variables including alignment and even same size tire from different makes. I get a little kiss at full lock with a 235 on 8.5” front very agressive height and alignment.

Default front tires rubbing

Hi,

I am still looking to find the easiest way to stop the tires from rubbing.

Installing a 5 mm spacer was suggested and seems to be the easiest solution, but it seems my tires rub pretty hard against the chassis and I wonder if such a small spacer will pull it far enough away to stop rubbing.

Your suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

56.7 is a bit high for an 8 on the front of a 964 , the 964Cup 8s w/ 225/45 were ET52

That said it's common and not really a big concern for that stup to rub a bit on the inner chassis, The 964TSB is about interference at the bumper/fender corner, where you sometimes need to trip the flange at that spot and or add steering stops that limit the rack motion.

Default front tires rubbing

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your feedback.

I have a pair 8" x 17" cup 1's with 52" offset.

Will these work without rubbing on the chassis or fenders? Add spacer to help?

I like the Cup 1's better than the RUF's anyway, but need to source a pair of rear 9".

Thanks,

David

I installed 5mm spacers with my 8x17 ET 56.7 RUF wheels and no issues with rubbing. I'm cunning Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires in 225/45R17.

I have those same RUF speedlines and same size tires on a 1990 C2 cab and I was getting the rubbing at full lock. I bought some 5mm spacers off a fellow RLer and put them on the front axle and the rubbing is gone.

Default front tires rubbing

Thanks guys. It seems worth a shot. Any recommendations where I can buy them? Will the stock length lugs be ok to use?

Elephant racing has them and you can keep the stock studs for 5mm. Any higher than 6mm spacer and you need new studs.

Rennline has 5mm hubcentric ones, or you can go with their flat version to save a few bucks. Stock lugs will be ok with these.
