Default Brake Warning Light

Hi all, I have a 93 C4 and I'm having a problem with my brake warning light, which not only tells me about the fluid level in my reservoir, but according to my owners manual also works as a brake pressure indicator. So if the fluid level or the brake pressure is too low, the warning light comes on. And, when my brake warning light comes on, the PDAS warning light comes on also, which I think is correct from what I've read. Here is the real problem: if I disconnect the brake level reservoir switch, both brake and pdas lights go out. This seemed to be no-brainer to me - the fluid sensor wasn't working or so I thought. Bought a new sensor, hooked it up and both warning lights came on again! Also, I hear the hydraulic pump working, so I believe that I have plenty of brake pressure and the brakes seem to be working fine. So, disconnecting the fluid reservoir switch would indicate to me that I must have a wiring short in that circuit but before I go tracing wires all over the place, I thought would see if anyone out there has alternate ideas and/or fixes.

many thanks in advance

With a C4, you need to have the brake fluid reservoir filled to the max level. Otherwise, the brake and PDAS lights will come on. Before diving into the complicated wiring troubleshooting, I would try the simple fixes first.

Thumbs up

2nd what Rocket Rob has said. I've had the same results if my brake fluid is a little low.

I had the same issue and found that topping off the reservoir did the trick!!!!

Thanks to all for solving this problem for me. Saved me a lot of time, grief and aggravation. Still have a hard time believing that was the problem, but it sure was.
