I spent an hour trying to get it to line up perfectly while using the rubber mallet to try to tap it in, no go. Is there something that can be preventing it from moving rearward or is it just that finicky to align?
Also, right now the transmission is torqued down to the body and the two main tunnel bolts are torqued to about 30 ft lbs (I tried loosened). Should I try lowering the engine so I have more wiggle room?
I remember it took a bit of fiddling to align but it pulled on with a small amount of turning and levering on with a flat screwdriver. I reinstalled the engine exactly in reverse as per the manual.
OK, so after 3 days and more hours than I'd like to admit, I got it back together. The trick was to slightly loosen the main bolts and then prop the drive shaft up with the jack to align it better.
