Adrian mentioned on another thread that the rear side windows on a 964 are a 901 part number. This got me thinking about that old chestnut of Porsche's when they used to claim that, by the time the 964 came along, none of the 'original' 901 parts remained, except the badge.
Now we know that the 'badge' bit is wrong, of course. Just Porsche's marketing dept. doing their thing, but does anyone know any 901 parts that really are the same on our cars as they were at the beginning?
Off the top of my head, I would guess that the fuel flap release **** and the engine lid pull handle must be good candidates, but maybe the design has changed slightly even if the 901 part number remains. I'm thinking of parts which still have the ORIGINAL spec...

The aftermarket door skins are the same from the sixties through the 964, according to several catalogs. I am not sure about the windshield, but other than the antenna, it looks the same.

I think the front/trunk bonnet of the earlier cars changed with the intro of the G series in 1973/4. IIRC from a recent article about making a replica 73RS from a 74G the bonnet of the later car had to be swapped for an earlier one.

Actually if you scroll through PET, starting in the engine section, you will find a zillion 901 parts still in the system for the 964. The rear side windows are not one of them though, BUT the door glass in the coupe has a 901 number.
I also found that the Euro RS's front "vent" and door glass have "959" part numbers for the thinner glass which is kind of interesting.

Rear glass on 901 didn't have heating elements in it. Also there are 5 different versions of the 964 glasses with and without center stop light and/or rear wiper + the unique thin RS rear glass. All have 964 part numbers.

The stamping for the dash looks to be the same as in my 72. The doors from a 74 up will bolt right on but the holes for electrical and so forth are cut in different places. The hood is the same as 74 up (I have a 84 on my car) The ignition switch and key assembly go back to 70's era cars. Overall there are a lot of parts that are the same or very similar to earlier cars.

Almost all the early 911 part numbers start with 901 - the planned name for the 911 until Peugeot complained that it was too much like a car they called the 501. Porsche obliged by changing the name to 911. I can't recall ever seeing 911 on a part number. Everything I replaced started with 901. Were any 901 cars ever sold?
