Default The Rise & Rise Of The Porsche 964 (speedhunters post)

Nice article Paddy McGrath!
"As prices of used 964s settle, it’s clear that they will remain unobtainable for so many of us. Still, I hope that those who are fortunate enough to be able to own them will continue to carefully and considerately evolve these cars for years to come, and to share them with the rest of us. Please don’t lock them away as investments, use them as they should be used."

Great article and recognition.

I almost didn't end up with my 964. This was Summer 2013 and the PPI indicated it needed a front brake caliper and pads, a few other little odds and ends totaling maybe $1500, plus the specialist didn't like the 964 platform and helped talk me out of it, so I walked away when the seller turned down a 13k offer. Summer & Winter came and went, and I couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that I made a huge mistake, probably because it was becoming evident air-cooled prices were going up, and they were disappearing off the local classifieds. So the next Spring I called the seller (was never advertised publicly) and to my surprise he still had and wanted to make a deal. It's a beautiful example that I could never afford today.

Summer of 2012 I passed on a Gray '89 C4 for 12k but it had major oil leaks needing a top end, but that was the car that made me realize how underrated the 964 was.

It was waiting for you.

I found this quote interesting:
...there was a clear style recipe being applied to 964s around the world, a style which most continue to follow today, and for good reason, too. It just works.

...rather than being tired of seeing the same thing, I find that I just want to appreciate it each time. As a community, the 964 owners of the world have developed the perfect treatment for their cars. It’s restrained, but does enough to alleviate some of the original design quirks. You don’t see much in the way of variation on it, because they don’t need to fix things that aren’t broken anymore.

So with all the 964 available out here they could not find a single one at a decent ride height?

LOL, that's why I used the frontal shot in the original post.

Speaking of low cars, today they have a feature on Essen. Of course they have a 964 pic in the album, but it's set up like this...
**** not my thing, but there's room for everyone's crazyness within our Porsche family ****

The writer is based in Europe, and I would say that over here they have settled.
In France a couple of years ago people were selling really ratty cars in need of a full restoration for over 50,000€, now 40K gets a nice car that needs a little TLC : https://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/1673857902.htm/
55K buys a clean car which would have been 70-80K https://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/1719160781.htm/
105K to 120K for a Turbo or Jubilee which would have been upwards of 160K https://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/1574529608.htm/
