Default Help with planned 964 build

Hi,
After years of procrastinating and daydreaming I am finally ready to take the plunge and build my dream 964. I am looking to build a stripped out track focused car, I want it as lightweight as possible, Ideally I want to start with a full chassis refurb, a weld in cage etc. I want to change most of the body panels to CF/GRP.
With this sort of project in mind what base do you recommend to start with:
Pay more for a C2 in good condition?
Less for a C4?
Look for crashed/salvage above?
Find a rolling or bare chassis and go from there?

Interested to hear from people who have faced this choice.
thanks

Check out Foxman's build, Chronicling the restoration and rebuild of Wilbur, the Pig... and have a dumpster full of $$$ at the ready.

Sounds like budget isn’t a major concern. How much body work do you plan to do? Seam welding? The less you do the more I’d spend on a good body / chassis. 2 vs 4 probably doesn’t matter since I’m guessing you’ll end up with a 2 regardless. Seems like a decently sorted car would be a waste of money since you’ll be tearing everything apart but will let others chime in who have more insight.

find a good car. because the cost of the car will be the smallest part of this endeavor and save you $ end of day dealing with a roached out car. And don't mess with a C4. You'll spend the difference in up front cost making it like a C2. I also prefer the braking is vacuum vs. hydraulic assisted on the C2.

You can look at my adventure, link in signature, I'm not yet done, still going to build motor and trans regear, then it's sort of done for me.

Start with a nice donor, you'll spend less incrementally on a good car than repairing a rough one or converting it. Also, you need to figure out where you plan on racing this thing, the rule book will dictate what you can/can't do as far as weight is concerned. For PCA, the stock/prepared classes won't allow for CF doors/fenders/roof/quarters.
