Default CUP I wheels 16" vs 17"

I see the large difference in prices between the 16's and the 17's, and wonder what the infatuation is all about. It is just to reduce the sidewall so handling is somewhat better ( at least that is the only reason I know to switch). I could understand some premium for the 17's over the 16's, but now what I see in the market.

Am I missing something or is this just for the handling plus a little hyping?

16s look ugly and 17s look pretty.

Thats it.

I have no issues with 16" cup I as they are light wheels to what is a slow car. 17" cup IIs are lightweigh also for not much money.

I've had all three wheels on my car, cup style 16", 17" cup 1 reps and 17" cup 2's. I use the 16s in the winter and now use cup 1s for spring/summer. Cup 2s were definitely lighter, but I love with look of the 17" cup 1s the best.
I still have the cup 2 wheels that I may use for the winter in the future or maybe some track wheels as I've been itching to get the car on track.

Here are some photos of the differences.

There’s also many more 993 Cup 2 wheels available than there are 964 Cup I wheels so supply/demand plays a role.

Love those pics! I'm not bashing 17's. Personal preference is good enough for me. Just wondering exactly why they are 7x. My 997 wears HRE P101's so I have no room to talk about expense

The prices for OEM Cup 1 wheels are insane. While period correct, they are boat anchors. Yes my replica Cup 1s aren't light either, but it was the look I always wanted and 1/4 of the price of a set of OEM Cup 1s.
The price tag on those HREs is another story lol, they look sweet though.
