Default help! hvac fan removal

Hi all, I've read every thread on Rennlist and elsewhere for the removal of the lh HVAC fan and looked at a gazillion pics of it. I've gotten to the point where I've inserted a screwdriver/hacksaw blade into the slots behind the fan. I have tried with various screwdrivers/hacksaw blades, twisting, turning, levering to get the motor out all to no avail (the two torx screws have been removed). I've attached a couple of pics (front/back of fan) where I think the screwdriver goes in (1st pic, red arrow) and where it is supposed to "come out" (2nd pic, wide red arrow) and press down on the tab (2nd pic, red rectangle). I've also tried lightly hammering on the screwdriver/hacksaw blade trying to get it in further, but looking from the back, it doesn't go in any further. I've literally got hours in on this now, so I am desperately in need of help.

arrow points to slot

is this what is supposed to be pressed down?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. I find that a larger flat-blade screwdriver will work well for it as long as there is enough clearance in front of the fan. Twist it and pull at the fan hub to tilt it out, then handle the other side and it should then wiggle free.

Ive done this too many times this year so I’ve got it down pretty well.

Chris, thanks. That is kinda what I've been trying to do, altho I wasn't sure if the shaft on the screwdriver I was using was too thick. I guess a trip to harbor freight is in order. Should the tip of the screwdriver go to/past the red rectangle?

If it helps this is what the "socket" for the fan looks like and where the clips you are trying to release fit.

Probably doesn’t need to. I never had checked that part as I felt the screwdriver shaft be more of a slight wedge before twisting. When you have the driver twisted try pulling at the hub to tilt.

Deserion, ffc, thanks for all of your input. I ground down the shaft on an old screwdriver, altho, as mentioned my Deserion, now I don't think that was necessary for me to do. ffc's pics were extremely helpful. Regardless of all of this help, I still couldn't get the tab pressed down enough. I got so frustrated that I cut the squirrel page off and that did the trick. Not only was I able to get the screwdriver in, I was also able to grab the backing behind where the squirrel cage was to pull it out easily.

thanks again!

P.S. I purchased a new motor, with squirrel cage attached, from Summit at a very good price.

Excellent. Some "cheaper" options for the fans have appeared recently, a welcome relief from the £700 options from the past!
