Default Canepa Open House

For those of you familiar with the Canepa operation in Scotts Valley, CA... we locals are remiss over the fact that the shop no longer hosts a monthly "cars 'n coffee" event, always very popular and very well-attended. In conjunction with Monterey Car Week the shop has hosted an "open house" where you can get "up close and personal". A few random shots...

RUF 964 Turbo

Where else can you see 3 959's being worked on together?

Odd paint scheme?

The storage area.

Eye candy everywhere.

Just finished 959 to Canepa RS Specs in a gorgeous pearl-white.

Those are some pretty incredible cars there, I've never had the pleasure of seeing a 959 in person.

They're truly works of art and I suspect are finished to a higher level of quality as to when they rolled off the assembly line at Porsche.

Check them out here: https://canepa.com/959sc/

Cheers!

They certainly are works of art, but with the "959SC" I can't understand why someone would completely strip and rebuild (with non-original parts) a car that is $1M+ already? Certainly if you had a wrecked or trashed out 959, I could understand, but they said production is "limited" to 50 cars, which I think would be like 15% of all 959s built. Outside of emissions/drivability mods, IMHO 959s should be left "as-is"...rare examples of the best road car vehicle technology you could buy in the mid to late 80s.

How would you define the SC upgrade if not “drivability mods?”

These cars, along with the Singers, Gunther Werks, et all, cars exist in such an exclu$ive and rarified atmosphere that debating their merits is like arguing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. From what I've seen, I suspect most of us plebeians would be hard pressed to identify the non-OEM bits on a Canepa SC iteration of the 959 as it certainly "appears" infinitely more original than any of the "tuner" cars from the likes of RUF, Singer, Gunther Werks, etc. All are great in their own way... and all are financially distant for all but the top 1%. I'm rather happy with my 140+K mile, daily 964 driver.
