Engine Temp Question

I just bought a Durametric Pro. I have the Tore Scantool which has been great but with 4 P cars in the household of various vintages I needed something a little more comprehensive.
I plugged in my 1990 C2 and the engine temp with motor off (cold or hot) reads -33 deg C. Engine running it reads 117.8 deg C regardless of where the gauge on the dash is. Even up to the second line right below the red is still reads 117.8.
My question is, which sensor does the durametric read the engine temp from? Is it the CHT or the air sensor on the intake? Car runs fine and nothing leads me to believe something is wrong, but if there is a sensor that is off I would like to replace it.
