AC compressor price check
I have a leaking compressor and was quoted, believe it or not, $911 to replace and recharge. Granted, it's better than $964 but I'm just wondering if it's a reasonable price. Doubtful that it's OEM since he hung up with the dealer and said their price was crazy. It's a reputable shop so I'm not too concerned in that regard. My dark interior and humidity in this area makes the car uncomfortable to drive when it's over 75F.

Assuming you are after part 96412612101 then in Europe there is a fair list of possible replacements https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/oen...412612101.html. 96412612102 offers a similar list https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/oen...412612102.html

There's nothing inherently special about the compressor aside from the pulley. It's a standard Denso 10PA15C, which was used on other German cars of the period (such as Mercedes - my '95 E320 has one).However... if it's just leaking, you can get a reseal kit for under $30. Add in a new drier either way and run with it. I've resealed the unit on my E320, and just finished that for my 964 so I could clean out the old ester/mineral oil mix.
FCP Euro has them for $244.68 (lifetime warranty, however).
RockAuto has them for $172.79.
I'm almost finished replacing my entire system for the most part. The only original parts left in the refrigerant circuit are the compressor and the hard lines/fittings (lines were rebuilt with barrier hose).

Looks like the leaking is at the top where the hoses bolt down
And just found out we have an ac recharge machine at work (for the plane) so I’d like to replace the top o rings and see if it holds refrigerant
would anyone know the oring specs? Otherwise I can bring them in to a parts store I guess
they are different sizes and look to be tapered

does the car have R12 or R134. Plane machine same refrigerants??
Swapping a compressor is not hard. After evacuating you need to drain out the oil in the old one and put the same type of oil back in the new one.. same amount. And ideally replace the Drier at the same time. If it is just the o-rings those are easy to replace. Just evac, replace, charge to spec.
BTW, I have 134 on my 964 and it works fine.
