Plug & Play Oil cooler mod
I made a Plug & Play cable to install between the oil temp sensor and original cable controlling the speed of the oil cooler blower. 2nd blower speed (high) kicks in earlier resulting in an oil temp just above the 3rd line max on your oil gauge (90celcius). Perfect in hot conditions during trafic jams, track days or hot summer days! Easy install and easy removal. Cost cable 75,- euro, shipping cost between 13-24 euro. PM me if interested?

This mod is the same for the 964...it's just a couple different color wires between the different model years that have to be spliced into a switch. I did this already on my 964 and use it every time I drive. It's great for traffic and also to switch it on ten minutes or so before getting home so that I can shut the motor off right when I pull into the garage and not worry about shutting off a motor that hasn't cooled down enough yet.

Can you share the link to the DIY? I need to do this. It's been warm in LA lately.

I did this already on my 964 and use it every time I drive. It's great for traffic and also to switch it on ten minutes or so before getting home so that I can shut the motor off right when I pull into the garage and not worry about shutting off a motor that hasn't cooled down enough yet.

3TT do not see track and temp never went past 8:30-8:45 so there is no need at this point.
The 964 will get oil changed into V twin 20/50 and see where the temp goes this summer before modding.

I Made the cable to prevent soldering the original cable and not everybody is handy enough to solder.
I used a pot resistor to fine tune the exact resistor value. Use high quality connectors (Bosch).
Plug & Play in 20min.

Correct, if ballast restistor is defect indeed fan Will only run in slow speed.

For one, the ballast resistor is a cheap and fragile piece. Many times they look fine/undamaged, but still do not work and require replacement and lots of troubleshooting for nothing. If it were an easily accessible part then it would be a moot point. But these things are tucked away on top of the oil cooler virtually impossible to remove from behind and require removing the entire front bumper. Or, you can leave the unit installed, unplug it, plug the new one in and mount it in a more accessible location. Neither of those are good options IMO and this easy plug and play harness is an easy way to confirm or deny if the ballast resistor is functioning properly since this harness makes the slow speed fan kick on earlier and slow speed fan op is controlled by the ballast resistor.
I know, a very complicated way to check to see if a very vital part is working, but this is just another of the many design flaws IMO that Porsche chose to use by having the CCU control the oil cooler (and lots of other things).
