I also have a set of E28s.

I know...I haven’t made any decisions which wheels to go with, but I am giving myself options! I really want a set of Speedlines or R&H wheels.

Engine and transmission are out. Going to change plugs, belts and a few other minor items before I put it in the coupe....

I also noticed that my fan had a number of small cracks, so we are replacing it to be safe.

I barely ever see 964s anymore, never mind 3 in the same place.

Hi great project. I would love to hear more about the tip to manual process if possible. Tips can be bought for cheap so looking into that route. Maybe post a parts list and labour hours? I want to learn

Excellence has an article that I referenced. As far as cost, it is tough to give you that...I bought a manual '91 cab, and I am pulling all of the parts I need, for my project. I paid $23K USD(with a lucky bid on Ebay, last January), for the car. About 6 weeks before that I was looking at spending that on an engine and trans alone! I should clarify that I live in Toronto, ON, Canada, so there isn't exactly an abundance of used parts available here. With the market being what it is for 964s, I'm sure I will get most of my money back when I sell the cab. I plan to pull the suspension off, and do a full rebuild, so I can just swap it back in when ready, and lose as little driving time as possible! If I lived in California, I may have sourced a pedal box($500), tranny(people claim that they can buy them from singer for $3K, and that they are easy to find there...not sure if this is still true), and the linkages($500). There is also wiring that needs to be addressed. The automatic transmission cooler and lines need to be removed. I will attach a few more photos with detail of the sheet metal that was missing on my tip, from below the shifter. The Excellence article also notes that the tips have a different throttle body, but this was not an issue for me, because I took the ECU and engine from a standard car.

As I mentioned earlier, I know that purists, with original numbers matching cars, will look down on my project, but I bought this car when I couldn't afford it and I would really like to see the project through to completion, now that I can. It now has sentimental value. I am sure that all of us regret selling one of, if not all of our old cars, so I am keeping this one. I also intend to look for a good original 964(Red) when I sell the cab roller, so I can do what I want with this car, and have a nice original car beside it(best of both worlds!) I understand some like the tiptronic transmission, but I never intended to drive a tip and believe that this car is much more fun to drive with a manual transmission, IMO.

Not sure why, but the cab is missing this sheet metal below the shifter.

Not sure why, but the cab is missing this sheet metal below the shifter. This car probably won’t se emu chicken rain, if any, but we are looking to see if the price is available from Porsche.
