Default R134a fitting for the compressor. Anything special?

My car has aircon and has been changed to R134a. Last year, I changed a few components out (receiver drier and TX valve) and had the system recharged by a professional.

However, as I like to DIY, I want to check my pressures and periodically top up the refrigerant if required.

To do this I bought a set of manifold gauges. That's where the fun started.

I remember the pro saying he had trouble with the fitting next to the oil filter. What he didn't tell me is that he refitted a 12a fitting to get access. This means I can't use my manifold gauge on that fitting. Even if I could I don't think my fittings would get in there.

Is there a R134a fitting that will allow normal connectors on that side? I figure an elbow fitting would do it.

Elbow works. Gets a little snug with both connections on but it’s doable.

Thanks Chris, that’s exactly what I was looking for. BTW why did you put elbow fittings on both the high and low pressure valves?

This is how my connectors are oriented.

do you know what size these are? 1/4" NTP?
I think I want to get an elbow for mine, it's STUPID tight against the oil filter.
I'm putting a 134 swap on the 89 carrera too with a new compressor (seals started to leak).

John, that was done by the shop when the conversion was performed in 2011. I may change out that one elbow when I replace the evaporator.
