Default Valve adjustment ?

How often do you guys have your valves adjusted (or do it yourselves) ?

Our 964 had its valves adjusted 6 years ago (maybee 12-13k km)
Porsche says every 20k km the valves should be checked and adjusted...

And happy New Year !

I do mine every 20k Miles. I'm due now, and maybe I'll get to it in the spring...I've got so little time at the moment I'm waffling btw doing it myself or just dropping it to the shop.

That said. The sewing machine should sound consistent. And you'll get a sense for the rattle. And it'll tell you if it's due if you listen. But general rule for me is 20k miles.

I'm following the service schedule which says 30K miles.

Helpful thread as I was wondering this as well.

To add to the questions, other than listening for chatter does time come into play with valve adjustments? For example if the car gets driven a few thousand miles over 10 years would you still be ok? Also if you’re driving the car in the higher RPM range more frequently does that have any impact on the valve adjustment timing?

I would think the high rpm more often would naturally gave an impact hust my guess though the other no idea

Just applying logic - I really am not sure - but I would think that inactivity would have an impact on valve. So the need for an adjustment is really determined by how much and how hard you drive it. Having said that, these cars really want to be driven and typically do not get better with lots of sitting in the garage.

No doubt they want to be driven and they definitely run better after a hard drive. I'm just trying to understand what other parameters impact the valve adjustments timing. Knowing how **** most of us are about keeping the mechanicals in tip top shape I'm thinking it's been broached before?
