Default Yellow dif lock light flashes on bumps

Hi,

The yellow light that tells me the dif lock is powered flashes on when I hit a bump in the road - at 70 or 100 or 150 k per hour - at any speed - the same as though I am powering around a corner in the wet. Can the dif lock really be powered up or is it just a false signal? I have taken out the two little accelerometers in front of the gearshift and have flipped off their covers and gently bathed them in contact cleaning fluid and gently blown them with compressed air - but still the same little yellow flashing light when I hit a bump in the foad. Any one got any ideas?

Any help will be appreciated as I worried there is a deeper problem and I drive long distances in remote areas - so I do not want a major failure.

Thanks, Michael Gibney

This question has come up before - there is no failure. The yellow light will flash whenever the system detects that a wheel may be spinning and has to shift power between the wheels. If you hit a bump then the wheels - very briefly - have less or no traction, so the AWD system will breifly kick in.

Dear Michael,
The yellow flashing light is telling you that the rear differential lock, which is part of the PDAS or traction control system is being activated. This is normal operation. The system activates when the speed differential between the rear wheels varies by more than 0.8 kph.

Thanks for the advice - best kind of answer "do nothing it's not broken".

And if the yellow light doesn't get your attention enough, you can put a bulb in the dash indicator in your oil temp and pressure gauge so you have a green light on the dash, too!

It's kinda fun to see it come on and off...

First 964s had this lamp in the dash.

Was moved to a less visible position to avoid driver's distraction.
