Default Note to scrungy flipper dude at gas station...

1. It's a 91 and opening with "hey what year is that" is a bad way to open a conversation.

2. I said it's not for sale, but i lied. My car is for sale. The current price is 200,000 dollars US. (And as the rust bubble gets bigger, like sand through the hour glass, the value and price are rising)

3. No, you are not "a buyer" because my price is 200k, and you'd be an idiot for paying me that money, cuz you want to flip my car, rather than enjoy it.

4. No one that has a 964 wants a scrungy flipper dude approaching them at a gas station.

5. No i don't want your card so i can call you when i change my mind. I only call people who are already in my phone. I'd text with you, but you don't have a 964, so likelihood of texting is low since texting non-964 people doesn't happen often in my life.

6. If you did have a 964, i would help you fix it, cuz it will eventually break.

7. 200k for my car is a steal, since it would cost 80k to buy a car good enough to spend 150k to turn into my car (including cost of time), so you'd be 30k in the money on the deal.

8. That doesn't make sense to you, so again...no, you aren't a buyer. Cuz I'm not a seller. (Unless you pony up the 200k).

Lol! I usually say $100k but the way the current market is, $200k is a much more realistic number!

In all fairness...he, and many of the other scrungy flipper dudes, are likely good guys, have families at home, pat their happy little kids on the head, read stories to them at night and are lots of fun, and generally they are just like anyone else...so take my snottery tongue in cheek.

It always feels so back alley though. "Hey buddy, wanna by a watch?"

Not to worry though cuz i took a shower and washed it off.

I can't recall last time someone asked me if any of my cars were for sale. I do get a lot of thumbs up tho. This are cool. Annoying flippers not so much.

The other week I had a guy at a stop light two lanes over motion to roll the window down and proceed to ask the same set of questions. Kept trying to talk to me about selling while we were moving too. The "I have cash" line doesn't work either. I will definitely have to remember to use the $200k price tag next time lol

Ah yeah. Well I just put 200 miles on my RS this AM and the cars are more similar than different which is just what I wanted.
Both are stiff, kinda loud, light (Rs weights 3000, 964 under 2700), and very connected.

I think this weekend I'll drive my 89. Which is just old. :-)

[/QUOTE]"It's a 91 and opening with "hey what year is that" is a bad way to open a conversation."

Welcome to my hell. The car seems to be an idiot magnet.
Idiot: "Hey buddy- what year's the 'poorsh'?
Me: Read my face...we both know you're an idiot
Idiot: After failing to read my face "Wanna sell the 'poorsh'?
Me: "Not even for six figures"

There's nothing wrong with folks asking what year it is. Be nice, spend 30 seconds and move on.

I once stoped at auto parts store as I came out a young guy with his girlfriend asked “What kind of car is that”?
I say a 964 Porsche. He turns to his girlfriend and says “ I told you it wasn’t a G.D. Camaro” !! 😎

I met a guy at the gas station last time I had the car out, looked like a bum in a crappy 4x4 he came up to me for a chat. Turns out he had a nice SC and his wife had a boxter or something. I love meeting porsche people!

Person walks up to me recently:
"Hey, you the guy with the Porsche outside?"
"Yeah"
"How many miles?"
"xx,xxx"
"You mind if I take a look at it?"
"Go ahead, but it's not for sale"
- outside a minute later -
"How much you want for the car?"
(confused, giggling) "Make me an offer I can't refuse"
He doesn't make any offer at all, but goes on about "If I buy this car..." this and that, sitting in it.
"Man, get out. I said it wasn't for sale."

Thought it was obvious his "offer" would have to completely blow my mind but apparently not. Just another person thinking they know the most about what you have!
