Default miserable ducktail fit

I ordered an expensive ducktail, with an internal aluminum frame from Europe thinking it must be a high quality part given the provenance and price. I couldn't be more disappointed. The fit is atrocious - I literally had to grind the frame out and recontour the top edge to get it to clear the bodywork, and any concept of symmetry is just a joke. There is an "S" bend in the spoiler portion of about 0.25", and the the thickness along the sides at the fenders is different by 0.375" in places. I needed to add almost a quarter inch of glass on the right side to match the gap on the left. There is another 15 hours of work to make it look acceptable. I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar experience, or if I should just chalk this up to bad luck, and buy a different part???

You are not alone. I employed a porsche specialist to install mine, whom completely stuffed it up. Sounds like you have the brains to make yours fit well. What brand is yours? Pictures?

I think all ducktails for 964's have that big gap & don't fit correct. I had a cabriolet just like that & thought it was a bad ducktail then saw a few more with ducktails & none of them fit right.

I have Rennspeed. It fits okay. Nothing terrible.

Update - I gave up trying to fit the German part. I ordered a Getty Ducktail which came in a week. It is symmetrical (a huge step forward for me), isn't warped on the spoiler portion, and fits remarkably well laterally. At about 1/2 the price. I heartily recommend the Getty part and their terrific service....

Why not name the German company so others can avoid?

I've heard Stratton makes the best fitting ones and others needed some work. My car came with the duck and it's a Rennspeed. Fit is ok on one side. Just slightly tilted up on the left side which i'm not sure what is causing it. I tried removing the damper but its still tilted. I'll find a fix for it at some point.
