Default 964 manual conversion

I'm collecting all the parts needed for the conversion. Got most of them now.

Does anyone have detailed photos of the shift linkages and how they are mounted in the car? In particular I would like to work out:

1. how the "pipe" from diagram 701 mounts into the shifter tunnel - I have read I might need to weld in a box like on a manual body2. Where the rubber boots go.

I have the ilinkahes shown in the picture.

Thanks in advance.

You do need to weld the shift box into a C4. It is a bit of work but the problem is I don't think I have seen them available lately and I don't have a part number. I did this on my conversion.

Shift box part number is 993 501 059 00 (993 part number but should work the same and have the oval cutouts the the later 964s had so you can flip it for the short shifter.)

You'll need (2) 964 424 028 00 Guide tube bushings, these mount in the oval holes in the new shift box and the shift tube you have pictured will be placed through the guides (for short shifters you'll want the holes at the top position).

Thanks very much. My car is a C2, will I still need the box? Or is there one?

I cant check because the car is in the shop getting its bumper replaced after a crash......

On mine, I believe there were blank plates front and back opposed to the full box. My mechanic just cut out the oval to mount the guide tube bushings. The welded C2 box probably would have been better but I haven’t had any issues thus far. Double check on yours.

Ah I see. You will still need to remove the Tip box and replace it with this one along with converting the pedal box.

Would a CAE shifter eliminate the need for the box?

The large one attaches to the oval lip on the box I posted the other goes over the connection to the tranny.
